"Displacement Risk" Threatens to Overshadow Other Regional Policy Concerns
With the Bay Area's well-documented abysmal record of producing adequate new housing to accommodate job and population growth, it was to be hoped that MTC and ABAG would focus laser-like on effective policy responses such as regulatory reform, fee and exaction relief, and incentives for housing production.  Instead, as a recent letter [attached] to the regional agencies signed by members of the Bay Area Business Coalition (including BIA) notes with disapproval, the agencies are instead occupying themselves with generating a host of regional "social equity" policy proposals to inject to the next version of Plan Bay Area.   Full Story
Emeryville Poised To Hike Housing Costs
Over the objections of BIA|Bay Area and members of the residential development community, the Emeryville City Council has signalled during a study session that it will support a proposed equivalent $8,000 per-unit hike in its affordable housing impact fee. If approved, Emeryville will have the highest affordable housing impact fee in Alameda County by the end of the year. Full Story
