Oakland Public Art Fee Litigation:  Read BIA Bay Area's Op-Ed

As reported last week, BIA Bay Area has filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the City of Oakland's adoption of an ordinance requiring developers of residential and commercial projects to spend an arbitrary percentage of a project's total cost on so-called "public art" or pay an equivalent in lieu fee.  This weekend, the Oakland Tribune published a guest commentary [attached] on the litigation co-authored by BIA's Executive Officer Bob Glover. 

Bay Area Home Permitting Up In June

Alameda County and its cities led the Bay Area in new residential construction permits for June 2014, according to data released by the California Construction Industry Research Board. Alameda County jurisdictions issued 710 permits, a fourfold increase over the same month last year. Overall, the Bay Area saw a 39 percent boost compared with June 2014, permitting 2,158 new homes, condos, townhomes and apartments.  Full Story
