BIA Files Legal Challenge to Oakland Public Art Exaction

Last week, BIA Bay Area filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the City of Oakland's adoption of an ordinance requiring developers of residential and commercial projects to spend an arbitrary percentage of a project's total cost on so-called "public art" or pay an equivalent in lieu fee to the City so that it can establish a fund to support local artists. Sunnyvale Adopts Housing Impact Fee

Sunnyvale is the latest Bay Area city to adopt an affordable housing impact fee, voting in mid-July for a rate of $17 per square foot effective Sept. 14, 2015. But BIA|Bay Area South Bay representative Pat Sausedo helped temper advocates' demands for an even higher fee. She successfully persuaded the City Council to act in moderation and further urged the elected officials to seek alternative sources of revenue for affordable housing. Full Story 

Drought and Development On South Bay RPC Agenda

Santa Clara Valley Water District officials will discuss the drought and how it is impacting residential development at the BIA|Bay Area South Bay Regional Policy Committee's meeting on Thursday, July 39, 2015. The water district representatives will focus on drought management regulations for new construction along with current and pending proposals that may dictate landscaping, plumbing and other water management practices.  Full Story
