Bay Area Housing Issues:  Builders Give Perspectives to Regional Agencies

At last week's joint meeting of MTC's Planning and ABAG's Administrative Committees, an expert panel of builders and developers presented their perspectives on the challenges facing the industry in getting sufficient housing approved and built in the Bay Area, and offered constructive suggestions to address the challenges. Full Story  

Diablo Water District and BIA Collaborate On Drought

Faced with a mandatory 28 percent consumption cutback, the Oakley-based Diablo Water District reached out to BIA|Bay Area members for assistance in developing emergency conservation rules that help the agency meet its reduction target and accommodate planned residential development. BIA members and association staff met with DWD General Manager Mike Yeraka and negotiated a number of changes in the draft ordinance that will provide residential developers with greater flexibility and a 14-day advance notice in the event the district seeks further restrictions. Dublin May Meter Growth

The Dublin City Council seeks to slow the pace of residential growth in its 3,300-acre Eastern Dublin Specific Plan Area. The City Council directed staff during a study session on May 5, 2015, to return to the board in several months with options that range from lowering densities to establishing an annual residential permit cap. Councilmembers cited the drought, impacts on schools and traffic as the chief reasons for their decision.   Full Story 

San Jose Staff and Officials Urge Denial on Residential Zoning Request

San Jose officials and staff are recommending the City Council deny on May 12, 2015, a proposed conversion of commercially zoned property to residential through a General Plan Amendment for 4.1 acres at 1100-1298 West San Carlos Street. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the San Jose City Council Chambers. Full Story

San Jose Continues General Plan and Urban Village Planning

The San Jose City Council continues its study session series on its General Plan update at a public meeting set for May 12, 2015. Session topics include the Urban Village phasing, employment lands conversion policy, timeline and the make-up of the General Plan Update Task Force. Full Story
