  Greetings!
If today's weather is any indication, surely spring is just around the corner!

Returning Preschool Student (3-4 yrs. old) Fall Registration begins today, check your parent folder for a registration form!  If your child will return this fall to our preschool program you will have first priority for placement.  Forms are due by February 17th, after this day New Preschool Student Registration will begin and slots will be filled as available. Don't miss out, we anticipate a wait-list for fall.  2015-2016 Kindergarten students do not need to fill out Returning Fall Registration Forms at this time; children with Charter placement have already filled out intent to enroll forms; children who have entered the '15-16 Lottery will be notified and offered forms separately.

This month is Valentine's Day.  While our school does not celebrate with an official party, crafts and Valentine related projects are available in your child's classroom.  Each year children have the opportunity to decorate a Valentine Bag for themselves which will be placed in the foyer area Valentine's Day week.  Friends may choose to share Valentines with classmates or the whole school (for the industrious).  Bring your child's Valentines by Wed. February 11th and assist your child with placing them in the appropriate bags, we typically lump classroom bags in one area for your ease.  Classroom lists are available next to the sign-in sheets.   Happy Valentine's Day!

Philosophy Corner:

Why is observation so essential in Montessori?

"Observation is an integral and ongoing part of a Montessori teacher's work. Observing without judgment is one of the most vital teaching tools we have to "follow the child," recognize her needs, and assist her in finding her strengths and capabilities. Observation is a critical component of lesson planning and classroom management. When the teacher observes that a student has mastered a concept or skill, she can introduce new lessons.

There's much more to the art of observing than recording the skills children have mastered. For example, we try to detect what Montessori called "sensitive periods" in the child's development, as well as heightened interest in music, art, or nature. We need to be knowledgeable about child development in order to have insight about children's behavior, social interactions, and learning styles. The teacher who is gifted in the science of observation can help children overcome difficulties and redirect their interest when necessary." READ MORE

PTO Press.....
Thank You to all the families and friends that attended the National School of Choice Week Celebration!   It was amazing to see our students, young to old perform the NSCW dance; and to read and view the Elementary School's artwork and essays.  I would like to give a special thanks to all of the staff, parent volunteers, and community members that worked so hard to pull it off. The desserts were amazing! Thank you to all the parents that brought a dessert to share and a BIG thanks to our Upper Elementary students for baking and setting up the desserts so  beautifully!  With your generosity the left over desserts from this evening were also able to help benefit the Bridge Shelter's dessert auction!
