Reminder: Life Threatening Allergies at SVCS
We have a couple of students with severe food allergies at the Surry Campus this year.  Let's all work together to keep them safe. During the first couple of weeks, we will be talking to each of the classrooms about allergies and how we can look out for each other as well as watching an age-appropriate video explaining allergies. If you have any questions or concerns, you can talk with Matora or Carol Menck Keefe.

We want everyone to be aware so that if your child eats lunch in a classroom with a student with allergies you'll be ready.  If they aren't currently in the class, they may get invited to eat there. This is also good information for our community events and potlucks.

Kindergarten Class: This year we have a student with a severe nut allergy in the kindergarten class.  The allergy includes peanuts, all other tree nuts (almonds, Brazil nuts, walnuts, pistachios, coconut, etc.) and sunflower seeds (NO SUNBUTTER) The student cannot ingest anything that has a nut ingredient or produced in a factory with nuts (most chocolates have nut residues).  In order to keep our fellow student safe, it will be extremely important for our students (and families) to abide by the restrictions and safeguards that we will be putting in place.  In order to ensure her safety at school we are asking that:

The kindergarten class to be an entirely nut free safe haven.  Please do not send any nut/sun-butters (peanut, almond, sunbutter, etc), any other product with nuts or made in factories with nuts to school if your child is in kindergarten.
Make a date with your child to shop for alternatives and see which one they like the most.  Engaging them in the discussion will help increase understanding.  We know can be hard, go ahead and acknowledge that.

1st/2nd Grade Classroom:
This year we have a student in the classroom with a severe allergy to eggs. In order to ensure the safety of all our students, please refrain from sending in hard boiled eggs, egg salad or deviled eggs. We are hopeful that this isn't too much of a disruption in the normal snack/lunch making routine since those items aren't usually all that popular with six and seven year olds. If you have any questions or need suggestions for alternatives don't hesitate to ask Matora or Carol Menck Keefe.

First Day of School
First Day of School:  August 31, 2016.
Keene School Day:  8:00-2:45
Surry: 8:30-3:15 (arrive at 8:15 for morning fun on the playground)

Keene drop-off/pick up:
We ask that you drive SLOWLY and carefully through Keene. In accordance with the Keene Planning Board recommendations, please park/drop off students on the SVCS side of Court Street.  There is plenty of street parking.  Students should arrive between 7:45 and 7:55 a.m. Students will be released to Keene at 2:45 p.m.

Other things we've learned over the last couple of years.

1.  Please don't block driveway at any time.  Staff members need to be able to come and go.
2.  Use Forest Street or other sides streets to turn around.  Court Street is very busy so using driveways isn't safe.
3.  Just because you don't see a staff member's vehicle doesn't mean no one is there.  Anne is close enough to bike or walk.  We also have parking in the back, so staff members may be parked there.

Surry Drop off/pick up:
Surry Drop-off:  In order to improve our traffic flow and safety for all, please consider the driveway a ONE-WAY street.  Plan to enter from 12A, drop-off your child at the door (or park and walk them in), and then continue past the playground and out onto Village Road.  From there you can turn LEFT onto Village Road and then LEFT again on Crain Road.

Do NOT pass cars in the circle that are unloading children.

Students arrive to playground 8:15-8:25 a.m.:  Schools starts 8:30 a.m.

Surry Pick-up:  Students can be picked up from their classroom at 3:15.  Parking can be difficult but spaces are available at the Fire Station and on Village Road.  Please avoid our neighbors beautifully manicured lawn on the left hand side of the the driveway.  Do not drive on lawn or park on the right hand side if it will cause others to drive on the lawn.
Pizza Fridays
Pizza Friday starts our first Friday of school.  SVCS pizza is $3.00 for two slices  Make sure you have pre-paid by Thursday, you don't want your child to miss out.

Payments can be made weekly/monthly/semi-yearly/yearly. Whatever works for you.

All money should be placed in an envelope with the student(s) name(s) and put in the mailbox in the front hallway in Surry or in the "For Matora" box in Keene by Thursday of that week. Cash and checks (made out to SVCS) are accepted. If a student has an outstanding balance, we will no longer be able to provide pizza that day.
