Magna Charter

We are trying out a couple of different days of the week for delivery of the Magna Charter.  Just let Matora know if you prefer to receive the newsletter on a Wednesday or Thursday rather than Friday.  We want to send it out when it has the highest chance of getting read.  :)

Festival Success

A big thank you to all that made our Pumpkin Festival Booth a success.  Thanks to Alex P., we worked like a finely tuned machine!  The booth brought in $4200 and that couldn't have been done without the hours and hours of volunteer time and donations.  There were over 30 volunteers and countless hour spent creating the masterpiece.

Thankfully, the PFest footprint contained the usual festival atmosphere throughout the event.  Quite early in Pumpkin Fest Lauren, Kiera, Nora and Lucy were interviewed as a group on Cheshire TV so be on the lookout for them this week.  Now that is some positive press around Pumpkin Fest.

Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences

As you know, conferences are scheduled for this coming Monday and Tuesday! SVCS conferences provide an opportunity to formulate and update each student's Personal Learning Plan, and to review his or her progress, needs, and achievements.  Students are an integral part of these meetings, so be sure they come along with you!

We've intentionally moved conferences earlier in the school year so that Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) can be established sooner rather than later.  Personal Learning Plans highlight a student's strengths and areas for growth, and acknowledge progress made toward each child's goals. We expect input for PLPs by all constituents: student, parents, and teachers, so take a moment to think about your child's strengths and challenges. What do you see as your child's "growing edge"? What would you hope he or she gets from this academic year? This will help guide your conversation with the teacher and your child about academic and social goals for the 2014-2015 school year.

We've also set aside two full days so that folks don't feel rushed while laying the ground work for a successful year.  We take our goal-setting seriously and believe It is time well spent!

Announcements, announcements!

Do you love to ski or ride?

Never have but want to learn?

Hello all, it will soon be that time of year for snow and all the good fun that comes with it!  I am heading up the SVCS snowsports club this year at Granite Gorge.  The program runs for 6-8 weeks after school on Wednesdays starting in January.  This is a great program that offers ticket, lesson and rentals in a safe, fun atmosphere.  Plus you get one day of your choice to ski or ride for free!

Registration forms will be sent out next week for those who are interested, or you can contact me via phone/email.  Rides to the mountain are provided by carpooling, parents are responsible for pick up at 6pm on the mountain.  I will be having an informational meeting at SVCS two weeks before registration is due to answer any questions.

Let it snow!

Jake V. had a great cross country season this fall.  All that extra energy was channeled into running, and he ran in the New Hampshire State Middle School Cross Country Championships in Londonderry, NH October 18th. Out of 220 middle school boys from schools around the state, he raced to a third place finish!  Way to go Jake.

Thank you thank you thank you!

...to  all our parent volunteers!  You drive places, bring in gift cards, peel apples, stuff Friday Folders, scoop pumpkin guts and do just about anything we ask.  Please know how much we appreciate you.
