Lack of Sleep Increases Risk of Failure in School Among Teens

For adolescents, adequate sleep is crucial for proper growth. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine reports that teens need a little more than nine hours of sleep each night. Previous researchers have highlighted how lack of sufficient sleep puts teens at the risk of cognitive and emotional difficulties, disciplinary problems, negative moods and lack of attention at school.

We need your Free and Reduced forms!

Please please please take a moment to fill out the Free and Reduced Meal Forms or sign off that you aren't eligible and RETURN them to an SVCS Office near you. This is important even though we don't have a school lunch program. Here's why:

If your family is deemed eligible for free or reduced-price school meals, then your family is also able to access funding from the Elijah Barrett Scholarship. Scholarship funds can be used for afterschool programs such as art, band and field trips.

In addition, with a certain percentage of our population eligible for free and reduced lunches, we're able to receive significant additional state funds. These funding sources make a huge difference for our school! So we need your forms pronto, por favor!

Carpooling:

Alejandra is looking for carpooling to the Surry Campus in the afternoons. We'd like to look at options for carpooling to Walpole, near the town common. We live in Langdon and would also be open to carpooling in the mornings. We drive through Alstead to Rt. 12A. Email at
[email protected].

Jody needs help getting her child to the Surry campus from Hinsdale in the mornings every other Monday and every Thursday morning, as well as rides home to Hinsdale after school on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Email [email protected].

Volunteer Sign-Ups

Three ways to support your child and have fun, too!

Fall Festival:  Looking for 12-16 helpers for our fun Fall Festival on October 3rd. Time slots are from 1:00-3:00 p.m. for activity support and 3:00-3:30 for clean-up.   A sign-up sheet is posted at the Surry Campus or click here. Reminder: this is not a family activity.

Pumpkin Carving:

In order to help support the Pumpkin Festival (and to have some fun too), we'll be carving 100 pumpkins Wednesday, October 15th from 2:00-3:30 (Thursday the 16th is the rain date). Please consider coming to Surry to help set up and supervise the carving.  We're looking for 10-15 people. If you can't make it, consider sending some carving tools. We've found that those wire dog brushes make awesome pumpkin-gut scrapers. Can't wait to spell out "Surry Village Charter School!"  Click here to sign up.

Pumpkin Festival Booth:

Just three weeks until the Keene Pumpkin Festival! Please consider signing up for a shift at our food booth. Our pumpkin sausage soup, pulled pork, and apple crisp are legendary! We need as much help as we can get, and this is a fun way to get in those volunteer hours.

We are delighted to have her on board. Welcome, Cathy!

2.  We are just as thrilled to welcome Judy Dubriske as our long term sub for PE.   Judy is a retired PE teacher who is well known is the area as a fantastic teacher.  She'll like start working with our students on October 10th.  Welcome Judy!

Sacred Chamber Process

The Sacred Chamber Process is a phenomena that was established in India. Since the beginning of 2014, it is being introduced to the rest of the world. This is because the shift of awakening has accelerated on Earth; people are prepared to deepen their relationship with the Divine! The Sacred Chambers are an opportunity for you to deepen your connection with the Divine (your Higher Self).

There is NO COST to go through the Sacred Chamber Process. This is a gift to Humanity from the Divine. You must sign up and have a confirmed appointment. Please read more about the Sacred Chambers and how to prepare at taproothealing.org before you sign up.
