Membership Registration Reminder: All Athletes, Coaches & Officials
A polite reminder to all athletes, coaches and officials, that you must be a registered member of Field Hockey BC in order to participate in any leagues or club activities. Included in your Membership Fees is insurance coverage. If anyone participating in a sanctioned league or event is not a registered member, then insurance can be compromised for everyone else participating.

Field Hockey BC will be taking on the task of roster checks for all spring and summer leagues to ensure that all participants are registered members. Please take the proactive step to help your clubs save some time and effort by completing your registration ahead of time.

2016 Train to Train Boys & Girls Regional Festival
From April 8th - 10th, over 150 athletes took part in the T2T U15 Boys & Girls Regional Festival. This was the culmination of lots of hard work and training over many months. Athletes came together from the Lower Mainland, Interior and Vancouver Island, and were drafted into teams - 8 girls teams and 2 boys teams. The girls participated in a friendly round-robin tournament with 6 games each, while the boys played each other twice. With the sun out for the majority of the weekend, and the fantastic play by these up and coming athletes, it turned out to be a great event! Also, a special thank you to all of our coaches for their time over the last 6 months and particularly at the Festival. These athletes greatly benefited from your knowledge of and passion for the game.

The 2016-17 T2T Girls Regional Program will start again in the Fall. Look for more information about Program Trials in August and September. The 2016-17 Boys Program will start again in the new year. More information will be released in January of 2017.

2016 Train to Train Provincial Selections
Selections for the 2016 T2T Provincial Programs were made after the T2T Regional Festival. Athletes were ranked throughout their regional training and then were watched and graded based on their play at the tournament. The top girls were invited to participate in a Team BC Selection Camp that will take place in May. The top boys from the program have been selected to a Provincial Squad, with final team selections to be made in May. The Boys and Girls Provincial Teams will compete at the U16 National Championships in Calgary in July.

Canadian National Teams Return from Tournaments

Three of our Canadian National Teams are coming off of a very busy month, full of lots of international hockey matches!

The Junior Women's National Team were in Trinidad & Tobago for the Pan American Junior Championships from March 31st to April 9th. The team finished 4th at the tournament, after a tough semi-final loss to a brilliant Argentina team and then a close Bronze Medal match loss to Chile. Unfortunately, with the loss to Argentina the team was knocked out of a berth to the Junior World Cup as only the top two teams qualified.

The Senior Women's National Team were in New Zealand for the Hawkes Bay Festival of Hockey from April 2nd - 10th. This 8 team Invitational Tournament was a great test for the Canadian Women as they faced off against several top-ranked teams in the World. In their first game of the tournament, Canada was able to upset 9th-ranked Korea 2-1. They also came away with narrow 1-0 losses to 5th-ranked China and 13th-ranked India. Canada finished the tournament in 8th, but demonstrated that they can truly play with some of these international powerhouses.

The Senior men's National Team were in Malaysia for the 2016 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup from April 6th - 16th. At the 7-team Invitational tournament, Canada faced off against 4 teams that will be joining them at the 2016 Olympics Games in Rio. Canada finished 6th at the tournament, matching their tournament ranking, with a record of 1-2-4, however all of their matches were close with most ending with a 2 goal margin. The Men's team will now regroup and train before their final pre-Olympics tour to Europe in June.
