Congratulations to our BC Universities for finishing one-two at the CIS-FHC National Championships. It was a very tight tournament as all 4 teams finished with a 1-1-1 record after Round Robin play. It came down to goal differential to determine which teams would advance to the finals. UBC and UVic were fortunate enough to squeak through, while U of T and Guelph played for the Bronze Medal, with Guelph coming out on top. It was an exciting final between the BC rivals with UVic in the lead until the very last minute, when Coquitlam-native Niki Best forced the game into a shootout with a goal on a penalty corner with no time remaining. The Thunderbirds then went on to win the shootout 3-1 with goals from Sarah Keglowitsch, Cailean Meredith and Sophie Jones, all from BC. This is the 5th-straight National Championship win for the UBC Thunderbirds, who were underdogs coming into the tournament.
Hannah Haughn (UBC) was named a Championship All-Star as well as the Championship MVP. Sarah Keglowitsch (UBC), Kathleen Leahy (UVic) & Annie Walters-Shumka (UVic) were also named Championship All-Stars.
