AA & AAA High School Provincials - Call for Umpires

High School Provincials are fast approaching! Both the AA & the AAA tournaments are being held on Vancouver Island this year. AA Provincials are at the University of Victoria from November 4th - 6th. AAA Provincials are at Shawnigan Lake and Duncan from November 12th - 14th.

Umpires are needed for both of these tournaments. All umpires should at least have a Provincial umpire rating. Some travel expenses may be covered, but this must be agreed upon before the tournaments. Gillian Horgan & Megan Robertson are the head umpires for the AA tournament, while Alison Sweeten takes the lead at the AAA tournament. Please contact them directly if you have any questions or would like to umpire.

UVic clinch CanWest Title, UVic & UBC capture berths to CIS Nationals

Congratulations to the University of Victoria Vikes who clinched the Canada West title and a berth to CIS Nationals with a win over the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds on October 10th. With that win, the Vikes moved to a 5-0 record on the season and couldn't be caught by either UBC or the University of Calgary Dinos.

This past weekend, UBC clinched 2nd place in Canada West and the remaining berth to CIS Nationals with two wins over U of C. The Thunderbirds beat the Dinos 4-0 and 5-3 and finished their season off with a 4-3-1 record.

The Vikes will play the Dinos in the final CanWest regular season games on October 24th & 25th in Victoria.

CIS Nationals will be held at the University of Victoria from November 5th-8th. The top two teams from the OUA Playoffs will join already-qualified UVic and UBC in the fight for the Gold medal.

UBC Women's Field Hockey celebrates 107 years!

This year marks the Centennial for one of British Columbia's most prestigious universities, and it marks 107 years for the school's women's field hockey program. Before it became UBC, it was actually McGill University College of BC and in the fall of 1908 a women's field hockey team was created. Over the course of the last century, UBC's field hockey program has produced and been the home of many Provincial and National team athletes, world class coaches and international umpires. As of 2015, the program has won 16 National Championships, including 4-straight titles in the last 4 years.
