FHBC in Partnership with ViaSport to showcase Field Hockey Athlete & Pathway Development

We have recently partnered with ViaSport in the production of media resources that help Field Hockey BC promote Athlete Development and Pathway Development. In the first video, our Train to Compete Regional Program is used to exhibit Athlete Development and the pathway from being a Regional athlete, to a Provincial athlete on to a National athlete. The second video demonstrates Pathway Development and discusses the benefits of team sports, as well as the importance of female participation in organized sport.

2015 Learn to Train Festival

On July 3rd & 4th, over 75 under 13 girls joined us for the Learn to Train festival. The festival was a culmination of a two month program that focused on developing fundamental technical skills in an educational, supportive and fun environment. Over the course of the festival weekend, each team played six 28-minute Hockey 5s mini games. We also held a festival picnic at the nearby Ambleside Park. Overall it was a successful festival weekend with lots of good hockey and great fun!

Special thanks to Kate Gillis & Abi Raye, members of the Women's National Team, who came out to help open the Festival. The girls were excited to meet their field hockey heroes!

Boys & Girls BC Teams at U16 National Championships

After taking in the Men's and Women's Field Hockey Medal Games at the Pan American Games, our Boys BC U15 Blue & White Teams and our Girls BC U15 Blue & White Teams are halfway through their own field hockey competition! U16 Nationals are in Brampton this week and all four of our teams are performing well.

The Boys BC Blue team are 4-0 at the tournament so far, with one game remaining in pool play. The Boys BC White team are currently sitting in 5th position with 1 tie and 2 losses, but can make up ground on the last day of pool play when they take on both Ontario teams.

The Girls BC Blue finished 2nd in pool play, after a narrow loss to Ontario Red. BC Blue beat Ontario White in a tight 1-0 match and advance to the Gold Medal Game! The Girls BC White team had a 1-3 record in pool play, finishing 4th. This morning they faced off against Alberta in a quarter-final match. BC White managed to get by Alberta in a 4-3 sudden-death shootout decision! They will now play Ontario Red in a semi-final later today.

Good luck to all of our athletes! It has been an exciting week so far and we look forward to seeing how it all plays out.

Canadian Men Qualify for 2016 Olympics in Rio!

After their outstanding performance at World League Round 3 and a successful campaign at the 2015 Pan Am Games, the Canadian Men's National Team have officially qualified for next year's Olympic Games! The Men's team competed at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, but failed to qualify for the London Olympics in 2012. Many of the athletes that were part of the qualification process in the last year are from right here in BC! We're excited to see them represent Canada and BC on the world's biggest stage next summer!

Canadian Women grab Bronze & Canadian Men seize Silver at 2015 Pan Am Games

The Canadian Women's National Team broke a 16-year medal drought last week at the Pan Am Games in Toronto. They defeated Chile 1-0 in their final game to win Bronze! The Women were 2-1 in pool play, losing only to Argentina. They then beat Uruguay in the Quarter-Final but lost a hard battle to the US team in the Semi-Final. USA went on to beat Argentina for the Gold Medal, and Olympic Qualification.

The Canadian Men's National Team went undefeated at the Pan Am Games, until the Gold Medal match against world no. 6 Argentina. Despite a fairly even and exciting match, the Los Leones managed to pull ahead and take the Gold Medal with a 3-0 win. Canada won the Silver Medal in front of a supportive home crowd and will now turn their attention to the World League Finals in November and the Rio Olympics in August 2016!

Congratulations to both teams.
