2015 Train to Train Regional Festival

Our Train to Train Regional Boys and Girls programs came to a close this past weekend. After months of hard training, all of our U15 athletes came to Tamanawis to play in a 12 team round-robin festival! It was a great weekend, full of lots of great field hockey! We hope everyone had a great time and we look forward to seeing you back in the regional program next year!

Congratulations to all of the girls who have been invited to attend the T2T Team BC selection camp! You can find the full list of invited athletes here. The camp will be held in Vancouver on May 1st & 2nd.

The Boys T2T Team BC Squad will be named on Friday April 17th.

 


 

2015 Train to Compete Regional Tournament

The U18 Girls Train to Compete Regional tournament is being held at UBC's Wright Field from April 24th-26th. There will be 6 teams made up of athletes from the Interior, the Island and the Lower Mainland, all battling it out for the gold medal!

Learn to Train Program Deadlines Fast Approaching

Registration for our Learn to Train Boys and Girls Program is still open! This is a great opportunity for U13 athletes to step into our Long-Term Athlete Development Plan and receive supplementary training to their spring league teams. The program culminates in a fun festival on July 4th & 5th.

The deadline for registration and payment for our Interior athletes is Thursday April 23rd. The first intake session and assessment will be on Sunday April 26th in Kelowna. The deadline for registration and payment for our Lower Mainland athletes is Wednesay April 29th. The first intake session and assessment will be on Sunday May 3rd in Vancouver. 2015 President's Award Recipient: Gail Willaims

Field Hockey BC is proud to recognize the ongoing voluntary commitment of Gail Williams. Over the last 6 years, Gail has been technical advisor, judge, officer and director for a multitude of local, regional, provincial, and national events across BC. Gail is one of a team of individuals committed to giving of their time to create a first-class environment for athletes and their coaches to play and compete. It is fitting that Gail follows other technical officials that have been honoured to receive this award. It is our pleasure to award the 2015 Sport BC President's Award to Gail Williams.


 

 

Call for Umpires: 2015 Vancouver International Tournament

We are looking for Umpires for the 2015 VIT! The tournament is being held at Burnaby Lake West from Friday May 15th to Monday May 18th. If you are interested in being involved in this great event, please contact the event coordinator, Kathryn at eventsandofficials@fieldhockeybc.com. Please include your specific availability for all four days. Priority will be given to umpires who are able to commit to more days and time slots.

Canadian Women advance to World League Round 3

The Canadian Women's National Team advanced to World League Round 3 last month, after a thrilling sudden death shootout victory over Chile in the tournament's semi-final. Canada then went on to face Ireland in the final, and while it did not have any qualification implications, it was still a hard fought and tight battle. In the end, Ireland just managed to edge out Canada in yet another shootout. Canada finished the tournament with a 4-2-0 record.


BC's own Kaitlyn Williams and Hannah Haughn were given awards at the end of the tournament, earning top goalkeeper of the tournament and best young player of the tournament, respectively.

Canada will now look forward to World League Round 3 in Spain in June, where they will face some of the best teams in the world for the chance to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Canadian Men's National Team at Azlan Shah Cup

The Canadian Men's National Team have just returned home from Malaysia, where they competed in the 24th Azlan Shah Cup. The team finished 5th after defeating Malaysia 3-1 in a shootout in their final game.

The team is now back in Vancouver where they will begin final preparations for World League Round 3 in Buenos Aires, Argentina from June 3-14.
 

Schedules Released for Men's & Women's World League Round 3 Tournaments

The Canadian Men's National Team will take their first crack at Olympic qualification at World League Round 3 on June 3rd in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Canada will take to the field against Spain in their first match, and then face off against Argentina, Austria, and Germany in the rest of pool play.

The Canadian Women's National Team will launch their campaign for Olympic qualification at World League Round 3 on June 10th. The women open the tournament with a game against China, in Valencia, Spain. Canada will also face Argentina, Spain and Great Britain in pool play, before they enter the playoff round.
