Field Hockey BC coach and alumni awarded Vike Varsity Highlight Award 

We would like to congratulate Field Hockey BC coach and alumni, Kathleen Leahy, on winning the Vike Varsity Highlight Award from the University of Victoria. Kathleen was nominated by her teammates and recognized for her leadership, dedication, community involvement and positive attitude in field hockey!  
Abigail Raye will be the youngest Canadian player to reach 100 International senior caps 

On April 27th, Field Hockey BC alumni and 2013 female athlete of the year, Abigail Raye, will become the youngest Canadian field hockey player to reach 100 International senior caps. The 22-year-old from Kelowna will reach this milestone in her native England as Canada takes on the English in an exhibition game ahead of the Commonwealth Games. Train to Train athletes display great skill at Festival in Surrey this past weekend 

Over the past weekend, 150 athletes participated in the Train to Train Festival at Tamanawis Park in Surrey. The athletes have been training for months for this festival in the hopes of receiving an invitation to trial for Team BC. Field Hockey BC selectors were very impressed with the level of skill displayed over the weekend and have invited a large group of athletes to trial. Train to Compete athletes continuing 40 year tradition at upcoming tournament 

 

In April 1974, athletes from various regions competed in a tournament from which a select group were invited to trial for the first ever U19 Girls Team BC team. 14 athletes represented BC and won gold at the Junior National Championships in Ontario! 40 years later, 130 of our Train to Compete athletes will continue the tradition as they compete in the Train to Compete tournament for the chance to be invited to trial for Team BC. The tournament will take place at Wright Field, UBC, April 25-27. 

Spaces available in our Boys Learn to Train (U13) Development Program!  

Leading the boys Learn to Train sessions will be Mathias Ahrens, former Canadian Men's Junior National Team Coach who led the junior men to silver in the Pan Am's and Junior World Cup qualification. Mathias has a long record of producing top class International players and is looking forward to helping our boys reach new heights in this program! Boys Train to Train (U15) Provincial trial registration open until April 30th 

Train to Train Team BC trials are open to boys born between (and including) the years 1999-2001. Trials will take place May 2nd to 4th. If you are interested, please register before the April 30th deadline. Download the trial notice for more information and to register.  
Registration now open for boys Train to Compete (U18) Provincial trials 

Boys born between (and including) the years 1996-1998 are invited to register for the Train to Compete Team BC trials taking place May 10th and 11th. Registration is open until May 8th. For more information and to register please visit the Field Hockey BC website. 

Provincial umpiring course in Delta, April 29th and May 6th 

This course is open to umpires interested in the first steps towards fulfilling the Community and Provincial certification requirements, umpires that need a refresher, and umpires with expired certifications. Candidates should be at least 14 years old. Deadline to register is Thursday, April 24th. For more information and to register please visit our website. 
Canadian men and women win gold at Indoor Pan American Cup!

 

The Canadian Men and Women's Indoor National teams swept the finals of the Indoor Pan American Cup in Montevideo, Uruguay. The women defeated Argentina in the final to claim gold, while the men defeated the United States. With their gold medals in hand, both teams have now earned spots at the 2015 Indoor World Cup in Germany next February.
