FHBC Welcomes Courtenay John to the Team  

Field Hockey BC is pleased to announce the appointment of Courtenay John in the position of Office Administrative Assistant. Courtenay is a past member of the Burnaby, Tri Cities, and West Vancouver field hockey clubs and has represented the University of Alberta at CIS level whilst completing a degree in marketing. With experience in communication, marketing and project management, Courtenay is a welcome addition to the team.  Courtenay begins her role with FHBC on 21st October. 

FHBC Welcomes New Provincial Coach-Susan Ahrens 

Field Hockey BC is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Ahrens in the position of Provincial Coach. Susan lives in Vancouver, is a past Scottish International Field Hockey Athlete, a past Assistant National Coach to both the Scottish Women's Junior and Senior National Program, is a Level 3 EHA Coach and Tutor, holds a masters degree in Coaching Studies, a bachelor degree in Physical Education, and is currently completing her PhD via satellite. Susan is also working as the lead writer in the development of the LTFHD aligned Field Hockey NCCP pathway here in Canada. Provincial Umpiring Course   

Have you ever thought about becoming an umpire?  The Provincial Umpire course is the first step in becoming a certified umpire.  Field Hockey BC is holding a Provincial Umpiring Course at the FHBC offices.  The course takes place on Tuesday November 19th and 26th from 6.15-9pm.  To find out more visit the FHBC website or contact Nancy Plechaty

Call to Umpire-AA and AAA Championships 

The BC School Sports AA and AAA field hockey Championships are due to take place in early November and both championships require umpires. To find out the details for umpiring at AA championships which is held in West Vancouver on November 6-8.  The AAA Championships is being held on 13-15 November at Burnaby Sports Complex. 

Girls T2T Regional Program Trials-Register Now 

null The Train to Train program is for athletes born in 1999, 2000, 2001 interested in continuous, committed high performance training and high performance coaching from December-April. The trials for the Train to Train Regional Program are now open for registration.  Athletes can sign up to the Southeast or Northwest trials. Trials for athletes on Vancouver Island will be in November/December and Interior trials will take place in the new year.

Celebrating Les Mann

On Saturday, Sept. 28, the Cowichan and Island field hockey community suffered the loss and sudden passing of Les Mann. Les was a father, husband, brother, volunteer, coach, advocator, leader, contributor and much, much more. Les was a pivotal part of the Cowichan Junior League and a dedicated coach for several different programs on the island. Les' daughter Miranda is a field hockey icon on the island, playing through all divisions in VILFHA's women's league and going on to play out her five years with the UBC Thunderbirds. CIS Field Hockey Championship Oct 31-Nov 3     

null The Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) field hockey Championships will take place at the University of Victoria from Oct 31 to Nov 3. To find out about the CIS Championships, or to purchase tickets, please visit the CIS website.  The University of Victoria and University of British Columbia have qualified for the CIS through the Canada West Championships. 

Euro Hockey League Season is Underway     

The first weekend of the Euro Hockey League season has drawn to a close in Barcelona where eight teams sealed berths at next Easters KO16 tournament in The Netherlands.  Click here for a summary of the action.

 

International Super Series Hockey 9's    

The Canadian Women's Team are currently in Perth, Australia to take part in the International Super Series Hockey 9's.  A number of adaptations have been made to the Hockey 9's tournament including fewer players, 9 on the field, wider goals and fewer rules. Hero Hockey Junior World Cup Schedule Revealed 

The International Hockey Federation has revealed the match schedule for the forthcoming Hero Hockey Junior World Cup Men 2013 which takes place at the end of the year in New Delhi, India.  From 6-15 December, sixteen of the finest junior international teams in the world will fight it out for the title in the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. Canada have been drawn into Pool C with The Netherlands, Korea and India.  The full schedule is available on the FIH website.
