Vancouver International Tournament was held at Burnaby Lake Sports Complex with teams from as far as California coming to take part. Women's social, women's competitive and mixed tournaments were all held over the May long weekend. Thanks to both the teams and all our umpires for a successful event. The winning teams were as follows Women's Competitive 1st place: Island Wildcats. Women's Social, 1st place: Tri City Eagles. U16s Boys and Girls Club Championships Results
The Club Championships have been taking place over the last month. In the U16's Girls Club Champs, hosted by Tri City Eagles FHC, the Tier 1 winners were India Club FHC and Tier 2 winners were Richmond Ospreys. The final positions can be viewed here. Victoria Junior Field Hockey Association hosted the U16 Boys and the results were 1st place: United Brothers, 2nd place: India Club, 3rd place: Victoria. U12 and U14 Club Festivals
The U12 Club Festivals took place on 1-2 June. The Boys festival was hosted by Vancouver Hawks Field Hockey Club where some of the Mens National Team were on hand to flip burgers and run skills demo's. 27 girls teams attended the U12 Girls festival which was hosted by Richmond Field Hockey Club. The following weekend saw the U14 Club Festivals with the girls tournament, hosted by West Vancouver FHC, attracting a huge 30 teams and the boys, hosted by Burnaby FHC, was full to capacity with 12 teams. Thanks to all hosts, officials and teams for delivering a high quality and enjoyable festivals.
FHBC Schools Program- A Success
The Schools Program, which took place in Surrey and West Vancouver, is culminating in festivals being held at each school. Schools involved received a 6 week program of field hockey coaching which benefited close to 500 school children during April, May and Jun. The schools program aims to give students a taster of field hockey and encourages them to join local clubs as well as the initiation of after school programs.
Good Luck Team BC at Senior National Champs
Team BC's Senior Women's team headed to Ontario this week to compete in the Senior Women's National Championships. Team BC have got off to a great start in the first few days of the championships recording wins against Alberta and Guyana 8-0 and 14-0 respectively. To check the match reports visit FHC website! Pat Hall's retirement party takes place on June 15th. She will be retiring from the Executive board of the Vancouver Island Ladies Field Hockey Association at the end of this season, after 51 years dedicated to the sport. Pat was featured in a video clip on the Chek news which can be seen by following this Link!.
Canada's U21 series with Argentina
Canada's U21 team took on the Argentinians in Vancouver BC in preparation for the Junior World Cup in Germany, 22 July to 4 August. The U21's lost all 4 games against Argentina but showed great play and promise in the series. The U21's will now compete in the Senior National Championships in Ontario before going on to the Junior World Cup. Visit FHC Wesbite to find out more.
A Day Out with The Men's National Team at UVic
Canada's Men's Team are heading over to Vancouver Island to run a skills clinic and demo for Victoria Junior Field Hockey Association and interested parents and players at UVic (artificial turfs). This is a fundraising event as part of The Big Push aiming to raise money to support the Men's National Team for the Pan American games in 2015. Click here to find out more.
Shot Clock to be Trialled at World Hockey League
Ahead of the Hockey World League Semi Final tournaments in Rotterdam, London and Malaysia the FIH has revealed that a penalty corner shot clock will be in use for the very first time. The system is intended to quicken penalty corner completion times by allowing a maximum of 45 seconds for the set piece to begin. The full article is available on the FIH Website!
