We are embarking on a new effort - field testing cost effective technologies that reduce the environmental footprint associated with oil and gas operations including drilling, fracturing, air, water, site, etc. The EFD-TIP initiative focuses on demonstrating, documenting and reporting results.
Field Test Planning Workshops Set:
East Regional Center - September 28, 2012 West Regional Center - September 30, 2012 The objective of these workshops is to document the field test plans. These plans will then be sent to the TIP Advisory each Advisory Committee for review along with an evaluation form to enable a thorough review of the proposed effort. Meet Rhonda & Ralph Roughneck Workforce Development - Rig Operations
The EFD Coastal Impacts Technology Program (CITP) is a research and demonstration program that may lead to commercial application of technologies that will reduce the environmental impacts of unconventional natural gas and other petroleum exploration and production along the Texas Gulf Coast, measuring effectiveness of the technologies to conserve, protect or restore the natural coastal environment, and educates the workforce. The objective of the workforce development is to create and implement a program to develop a workforce skilled in environmental mitigation of exploration and production impacts in coastal regions. One part of this effort is the development of a web based interactive training tool that engages the workforce to interact with cost-effective technologies that reduce the environmental footprint of drilling operations. By interfacing with Ralph and Rhonda Roughneck, the user can tour or explore a virtual rig site and compare cost-effective technologies and systems that may be used to reduce the footprint in environmentally sensitive ecosystems. For more information about participating in this effort, please contact Rich Haut (rhaut@harc.edu/ 281-364-6093). |

The EFD program, funded by federal, state and foreign government agencies, industry and environmental organizations, provides unbiased science to policy makers and identifies, develops and tests new technologies, processes and systems to reduce the environmental footprint associated with oil and gas activities, from well site selection through natural gas compression. The program, approximately $4 million per year, is engaged in research and technology transfer activities from the Western Slope of the Rockies to the Ukraine, and from the North Slope of Alaska to Columbia (South America). Research includes land, air and water issues, as well as public perception investigations. The program was honored with the Chairman's Stewards Award for Environmental Partnership at the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission.
