Christie Clinic Orthopedic Surgeon, Richard Goding, MD, is now performing a new procedure for large and recurrent rotator cuff tears. Superior Capsule Reconstruction (SCR) is a new surgical technique used to treat rotator cuff tears that were formerly unfixable.

Superior Capsule Reconstruction is done on an outpatient basis almost fully arthroscopically. Using a graft, the superior capsule is reconstructed which recreates the biomechanical stability of the shoulder, allowing the other muscles in the shoulder to compensate for the torn rotator cuff muscle. This new procedure may save the patient from having to undergo a reverse total shoulder replacement. The results of this technique include improvements in shoulder function, strength and less pain during recovery.

The MarginProbe™ System provides real-time positive cancer detection for breast cancer patients during a lumpectomy which allows surgeons to better assess clean margins around the cancer, without having to wait for results of pathology tests. Using a sensor to probe the specimen, the surgeon is able to collect measurements on each margin and detect if additional tissue needs to be removed.

The MarginProbe™ System is three times more effective in identifying cancer on the margin of a breast mass during a lumpectomy than traditional methods, and there has been a 56 percent decrease in reoperation with the use of the MarginProbe™ System during lumpectomies.
