Spring (or Summer) is here!

Dear Friends,

I'm enjoying the cherry blossoms and warm weather and hope you are too. Things have been very busy since I last wrote, so I need to give you a quick update. I didn't get that Smithsonian Fellowship I was hoping for, but lots of other wonderful opportunities have popped up and I'm busier than ever. Here's the latest news. Hopefully you'll be able to stop by one of these events or visit in the studio.

Photo of a Sea Core in the Washington Post today

The DC Design House opens this Saturday and the Washington Post did a nice article showing some of the highlights. If you look carefully at the the shot of the beautiful covered terrace designed by American Eye, you'll see the large Sea Core I designed for the space in the corner.

The DC Design House fundraiser for the National Children's Medical Center. The house is open to the public from April 14 -  May 12, 2013.

 Side Tours

I have teamed up with SideTours to host a fun and unique art experience.
On Thursday, April 18th, and then again, on Sunday, May 12, 2013,  I will be presenting Get Hands On With Glass Art.

We will start off with a short tour of the Torpedo Factory Arts Center (and a few of my favorite stories about the place) then we'll go upstairs to my studio and I'll show you how I transform trash-glass into beautiful organic sculptures.  After the demo, it'll be your turn to play with glass! Using one of the techniques I demoed, you'll finish a small glass sculpture to take home with you.

You can sign up by clicking one of the links above. This should be lots of fun and I really hope you can join us. Feel free to pass this info on to any friends who are  interested in glass (or just interested in trying new things).

In the Nook with Sheep Jones

For the month of April, I will be exhibiting with Factory favorite, Sheep Jones, in the Nook Gallery in Studio 7. The Nook is a small gallery area in the studio Sheep shares on the first floor of the Torpedo Factory. To read a nice write up on the Artists' Association Blog, click here.

Fathom: Another Collaborative Show

In May, I'll be doing a collaborative show with  Liz Lescault  called Fathom. Liz is a ceramic artist who creates biomorphic sculptures. For Fathom, we started pieces individually, then turned it over to the other to complete. It was an exciting way to work and we have some wonderful things to show for it.

The show will run fr
om May 7-June 8, 2013 at the Waverly Street Gallery in Bethesda. The reception will be held on Friday, May 10, at 6 pm.

There will be lots of surprises, including an immersive soundscape designed by sound installation designer,  John Vengrouskie.

 Back from Palm Beach

I had fun exhibiting my work, and meeting new people, at the Palm Beach Craft Show in Florida. The event was exhausting but went well.

Here are some pictures of my booth and the big Sea Cores I hope you enjoy.

Hope you have a wonderful Summer. I doubt I will write again until Fall.

Cheers!
