Athlete Checklist
#1 Bring the hardcopy of your 2016 VSG Registration brochure with you - it contains a map, schedule, contact numbers, and lots of other information that you will find handy. Lost your brochure? Click on the brochure cover above and print your own copy.
#2 You might also find it helpful to bring a printed copy of your emailed registration confirmation.
#3 Account for traffic in your travels. Weekdays are busy traffic times everywhere - give yourself plenty of extra time to arrive and prep for your competition. The VSG Venue map on page 7 of your brochure should prove very helpful.
#4 Plan your schedule. If you are competing in multiple events at different venues, map out your strategy to reach the venues ahead of time.
#5 You do not have to visit athlete check-in ( Brittingham-Midtown Community Center) prior to competing, but please make every effort to stop by, or have someone do so on your behalf. If a packet is not picked up, you will be charged for shipping should you request it later.
#6 Bring payment if you think you will want to purchase vintage t-shirts and other available gear at athlete check-in.
#7 Plan to attend the Athlete's Party on Friday evening, May 20, from 5-8pm at City Center at Oyster Point. This is your opportunity to connect with other athletes and make plans for next year! Friends and family are invited as well; this event is free and open to the public.
#8 Please make every effort to stay for the medals ceremony after each competition. It is a simple way to show support for everyone's efforts. If you do not stay and are awarded a medal, you will be charged a shipping cost should you request it later.
#9 Please be sure to thank the volunteers and staff for their efforts - it's no simple task to pull off an event of the size, nature, and demographics of the Virginia Senior Games. Newport News Parks, Recreation and Tourism has set the bar high as they close out their 4 years as the Games host site! |
