At the Investor panel: New Opportunities for LA Biotech, join Biocom, the Office of Los Angeles City Mayor Eric Garcetti and BCLA for a panel discussion featuring seasoned investors who will share best practices for biotech entrepreneurs looking to access the capital needed to launch and expand their innovative ventures in Los Angeles (Feb. 16). 

Bioscience Talent Connection at Ray R. Irani Hall, USC main campus is a full day event that will include career pathway discussions, company info-sessions and networking opportunities, providing an opportunity to connect with some of SoCal's top biotech companies (Feb. 22). 

For our first seminar, we are hosting Dr. Steve Fiacco, President and CEO of EvoRX, a biotech company in Pasadena. He will be sharing his experiences with all students, postdocs, faculty, and staff who want to learn more about the business of biotech, and why starting your own company is a challenging and rewarding career path (Feb. 23). 

Webinar for students, and faculty or staff who mentor them, on how to identify graduate fellowships for which they can apply, how to prepare a competitive application, and common mistakes to avoid. (Mar. 1st)

Webinar for faculty about how to develop collaborations with industry and how to pursue industry funding for research. (Mar. 8th)

UCLA/UC Funding
At the end of February, we will be selecting one winner from each campus to join SVP Gulbranson, President Napolitano, and three well-known VCs for lunch. This is an amazing opportunity for any entrepreneur, current students, faculty, and staff are eligible for selection. Submit a video by February 28, 2017, to be eligible for selection.

This program provides funding for regular rank Assistant Professors at a critical time in the pre-tenure stage. The funding is to assist faculty as they advance an on-going research project, creative activity, or as they embark on a new project. Awards are made in the form of a lump-sum of $5,000 - $15,000 in research funds (Deadline Mar. 2)
 
Up to two grants of $10,000 are available for conducting pilot research activities related to cancer disparities in partnership with a community organization. The activities have to take place in SPA 6 and may represent an extension of an existing partnership or serve as a means of forming new partnerships. Applications have to include both an academic investigator and a community investigator. (Deadline Mar. 1)
 
Fellowships for UC postdoctoral scholars support training and research at a Mexican institution of higher education and/or research in the natural, physical or social sciences, humanities, engineering, or computer science. (Deadline Mar. 6)
 
Projects funded are expected to lead to development of major, long-term collaborations in the natural sciences, physical sciences, engineering, computer sciences, social sciences, or humanities; strengthening of academic and research capabilities of the participating UC and Mexican institutions, especially in Mexican regional universities and institutions outside of the traditional Mexican research centers. (Deadline Mar. 6)

Extended refers to those LSOs for which UCLA did not have an applicant as of the internal deadline. The first PI to contact the LSO office will be given permission to proceed as the UCLA applicant(s).  
Open refers to those LSOs for which the internal deadline has not yet closed. The submissions will be reviewed by the committee and the requisite number will be given permission to proceed as the UCLA applicant(s).
