The UCLA Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) is pleased to announce two Calls for Proposals for Transdisciplinary Seed Grants to further the development of new collaborative research and scholarship across the UCLA campus.  The purpose of these grants is to catalyze new lines of research and new interdisciplinary collaborations with the potential for solving important and challenging problems that can have profound benefits for society. (Deadline Feb. 15)

Webinar for faculty researchers on the differences between mission agencies (e.g., DOE, DoD, USDA, NASA, etc.) and basic research agencies such as NSF and NIH. The webinar will cover how to understand mission agencies, how to identify and approach program officers that may be interested in your research, what to ask, how to develop concept or white papers, quad charts, and full proposals. (Jan. 18)
Fellowships for UC postdoctoral scholars support training and research at a Mexican institution of higher education and/or research in the natural, physical or social sciences, humanities, engineering, or computer science. (Mar. 6)
Projects funded are expected to lead to development of major, long-term collaborations in the natural sciences, physical sciences, engineering, computer sciences, social sciences, or humanities; strengthening of academic and research capabilities of the participating UC and Mexican institutions, especially in Mexican regional universities and institutions outside of the traditional Mexican research centers. (Mar. 6)
The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) announces new steps to work towards the long-term health and sustainable use of one of America's most important natural resources: its soil. OSTP is also releasing a Federal framework for soil science, developed in collaboration with more than a dozen Federal agencies, with input from approximately 80 stakeholders from academia, industry, non-profit organizations, and the agricultural community.

A revised version of the NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG), (NSF 17-1) has been issued. The PAPPG has been modified in its entirety. The document will now be referred to solely as the NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide. 

The program awards five women postdoctoral scientists annually with grants of $60,000 each for their contributions in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields and commitment to serving as role models for younger generations. (Feb. 3)

The Energy Institute invites interested researchers to submit papers for the POWER Conference on Energy Research and Policy. Topics of interest can be found by clicking here. Paper submissions are due January 9, 2017.
