The Sustainable LA Grand Challenge team released its Five-Year Work Plan identifying over 100 research recommendations critical to deliver a 2050 Sustainable LA Implementation Plan for Los Angeles County by 2020. A core team of faculty and researchers from across disciplines met regularly over the past year to develop the Work Plan with input from internal and external scholars.

Our objective is to create a forum in Los Angeles where global maritime industry leaders, researchers, and Government Officials can meet, share ideas, and develop business and research opportunities, with the aim of creating a highly environmentally sustainable and profitable maritime industry. The CTSI Training Program in Translational Science was developed to provide clinicians with the necessary training to become successful patient-oriented investigators who can bridge molecular medicine and clinical research. Participants have a high commitment to clinical research and must have either professional health degrees or a doctorate. In addition, participants must be affiliated with UCLA, Harbor-LABiomed, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center or Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science.

The purpose of the program is to stimulate evidence synthesis and creative thinking around a pressing public policy problem confronting California. The winner of the competition will deliver a Public Lecture at the Center during Winter Quarter, 2017; prepare a short White Paper and Policy Synopsis that the Center will disseminate broadly; and receive travel support, editorial support, and a research stipend totaling up to $10,000 (May 16).

With this Dear Colleague Letter (DCL), the National Science Foundation (NSF) is announcing the intention to foster the development of a national research infrastructure for neuroscience (National Brain Observatory) to support collaborative and team science for achieving a comprehensive understanding of the brain in action and context.

NCCWSL is a transformative experience. During the two-and-a-half-day event, students hone their leadership skills at workshops, meet role models at our Women of Distinction awards ceremony, get inspired by keynote speakers, and explore their future paths at the Graduate School and Career Fairs.
