The UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) will be holding an all-day workshop for investigators at the CTSI partnered institutions (Cedars-Sinai, CDU, LA Biomed at Harbor-UCLA, and UCLA) to learn about how to prepare successful R grant applications.

American Association for the Advancement of Science - Science and Technology Policy Fellowships: Congressional
Award: USAID will determine salaries based on prior work experience
Deadline: November 1, 2014
Provides opportunities for scientists and engineers to learn first-hand about policymaking and implementation while contributing their knowledge and analytical skills to policymakers. AAAS Congressional Science & Engineering Fellows spend a year on Capitol Hill helping to research, develop and draft legislation and provide input to policy review and oversight.
American Chemical Society - Award for Encouraging Women into Careers in the Chemical Sciences
Award: $10,000
Deadline: November 1, 2014
The purpose of this award is to recognize significant accomplishments by individuals who have stimulated or fostered the interest of women in chemistry, promoting their professional developments as chemists or chemical engineers.
Award: $50,000

In 2015-16, the Pembroke Center is awarding one-year residential  postdoctoral fellowships to scholars from any field whose research relates to the theme of "Fatigue". Fellows are required to participate weekly in the Pembroke Seminar, teach one undergraduate course, and pursue individual research.

The Fellowship program seeks to advance knowledge regarding the confluence of crime, justice, and culture in various societal contexts. The Fellowship places particular emphasis on crime, violence, and the administration of criminal
justice in diverse cultural contexts within the United States.
Gates Foundation - The Grand Challenge of Digital Financial Inclusion: Enable Universal Acceptance of Mobile Money Payments
Award: $100,000
Deadline: November 12, 2014
Seeking novel solutions that promote adoption and use of mobile payments by smaller merchants, service providers, and other members of the ecosystem serving the poor. Solutions should seek to address the need for any provider of products and services to be able to easily accept mobile payments from customers with a mobile money wallet provided by any competing bank, telecommunication company or third party provider. Solutions should be relevant to those living on less than $2 a day in developing regions.
International Association for Dental Research - Unilever Social Entrepreneur Approach to Change Oral Health Behavior Research Award
Award: Up to $75,000
Deadline: December 12, 2014
The purpose of this award is to stimulate scientific research in social entrepreneur approaches to affect real behavioral change at the individual or community level that improve oral health, with a particular emphasis on interventions targeted to disadvantaged and vulnerable populations.
Award: Up to $275,000

This funding opportunity announcement invites applications by investigators from diverse backgrounds underrepresented in basic and biomedical cancer research. The NIH recognizes a unique and compelling need to promote diversity in the NIH-funded research workforce. The purpose of this FOA is to improve the diversity of the NCI-funded research workforce by supporting and recruiting eligible investigators from groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in the biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and social sciences including individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from socially, culturally, economically, or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds that have recently and demonstrably inhibited their ability to pursue a career in health-related research. This funding opportunity will also provide a bridge to investigators that have completed their research training and may need extra time to develop a research project grant application.

Zonta International - Amelia Earhart Fellowship Awards
Award: $10,000

The Amelia Earhart Fellowship program helps talented women, pursuing advanced studies in the typically male-dominated fields of aerospace-related sciences and engineering, achieve their educational goals. The Fellowship enables these women to invest in state-of-the-art computers to conduct their research, purchase expensive books and resource materials, and participate in specialized studies around the globe. Amelia Earhart Fellows have gone on to become astronauts, aerospace engineers, astronomers, professors, geologists, business owners, heads of companies, even Secretary of the US Air Force.

The University of California President's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program was established in 1984 to encourage outstanding women and minority Ph.D. recipients to pursue academic careers at the University of California. The current program offers postdoctoral research fellowships, professional development and faculty mentoring to outstanding scholars in all fields whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity at UC.

NIH - Women & Sex/Gender Differences in Drug and Alcohol Abuse/Dependence (R21)

Award: $275,000

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to advance research on male-females differences in drug and alcohol abuse and addiction and on factors specific to women. Both human and animal model studies are sought.

The purpose of this FOA is to invite applications for mentoring and professional activities to advance the careers and neuroscience development of diverse neuroscience researchers. The goal of this funding opportunity is to support mission relevant development and/or implementation of programs to: (1) increase the pool of Ph.D.-level research scientists from diverse backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research who are neuroscience researchers and (2) facilitate career advancement/transition of the participants to the next step of their neuroscience careers.
