The Girls' Empowerment through Education and Health Activity (ASPIRE) will improve reading skills for girls in upper primary school so they have the foundation of reading to be able to succeed in secondary school. ASPIRE's focus on reading is a continuation of what the Early Grade Reading Activity is already doing in lower primary school. ASPIRE will focus on all primary and secondary schools in Balaka and Machinga districts which are two of USAID/Malawi's focus districts under its Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS). 
Award: Up to $200,000

Offers small teams of two or more scholars the opportunity to collaborate intensively on a single, substantive project. The fellowship supports projects that produce a tangible research product (such as joint print or web publications) for which two or more collaborators will take credit.
Award: Up to $85,000

Program supports digitally based research projects in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences. It is hoped that projects of successful applicants will help advance digital humanistic scholarship by broadening understanding of its nature and exemplifying the robust infrastructure necessary for creating such works.

Invites research applications in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences. The ultimate goal of the project should be a major piece of scholarly work by the applicant.

The purpose of the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects and Centers Program is to plan and conduct research, demonstration projects, training, and related activities, including international activities, to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities.

National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance - 2014-15 E-Team Program
Award: Up to $75,000
Deadline: October 3, 2014 (Stage 1)
Provides early-stage support and funding for collegiate entrepreneurs working on market-based technology inventions. The program enhances this opportunity by providing expert entrepreneurial and venture coaching, experiential workshops, and a potential investment opportunity to help realize the commercial success of the technology inventions and innovations that come through our organization.

NIH - Pregnancy in Women with Disabilities (R01) Also see: (R21)

The grant opportunity encourages research project grants investigating the incidence, course, and outcomes of pregnancy among women with disabilities. Areas of interest also include studies to inform preconceptional and antenatal counseling and strategies for addressing barriers to prenatal care, and management of pregnancy, the puerperium, and the transition to parenthood in order to optimize outcomes for women with physical, intellectual and developmental, and/or sensory disabilities and their families.  Applicants are encouraged to include women with disabilities and members of the community in the design and conduct of their research.

NIH - Women & Sex/Gender Differences in Drug and Alcohol Abuse/Dependence (R21)

Award: $275,000

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to advance research on male-females differences in drug and alcohol abuse and addiction and on factors specific to women. Both human and animal model studies are sought.

Agency for International Development - Egypt USAID Local Scholarship Program

Award: $69,000,000

Deadline: September 10, 2014

The goal of this program is to support development in Egypt by providing scholarships for future leaders and problem solvers to gain an understanding, experience and appreciation of development and democratic processes and values at U.S. institutions. Applicants will also explore the possibility of providing scholarship opportunities at quality public not for profit universities. Applicants are encouraged to promote gender balance and geographic diversity in the distribution of the scholarships.

The goals of the ADVANCE program are (1) to develop systemic approaches to increase the representation and advancement of women in academic STEM careers; (2) to develop innovative and sustainable ways to promote gender equity in the STEM academic workforce; and (3) to contribute to the development of a more diverse science and engineering workforce. ADVANCE also has as its goal to contribute to and inform the general knowledge base on gender equity in the academic STEM disciplines.

This program seeks to support for knowledge generation research projects that seek to create and study new theory-driven models and innovations related to the participation and success of diverse groups in STEM undergraduate education.
RGK Foundation - Grants in Education, Community, and Health/Medicine
Award: Average is $25,000
Deadline: LOIs accepted on a rolling basis
Grants support a broad range of human services, community improvement, abuse prevention, and youth development programs. The Foundation is also interested in programs that attract female and minority students into the fields of mathematics, science, and technology.
