The objectives of this program are to strengthen organized ethnic communities comprised and representative of refugee populations, and to ensure ongoing support and culturally appropriate services to refugees within five years of their initial resettlement. The populations targeted for services and benefits in the application must represent refugee groups who have arrived in the U.S. within the last five years.

The fellowship, which is based on academic excellence and need, is open to both undergraduate and graduate students of color. The Hearst Fellow serves as an intern with PSI in the Washington, DC office of the Aspen Institute. Through this fellowship, PSI seeks to introduce a diverse group of students to issues and challenges affecting philanthropy, social enterprise, nonprofit organizations, and other actors in the social sector. Recipients may arrange with their colleges or universities to receive academic credit for this experience.

This initiative seeks applications from applicants that propose to stimulate and expand research in the health of minority men. Specifically, this initiative is intended to: 1) enhance our understanding of the numerous factors (e.g., sociodemographic, community, societal, personal) influencing the health promoting behaviors of racial and ethnic minority males and their subpopulations across the life cycle, and 2) encourage applications focusing on the development and testing of culturally and linguistically appropriate health-promoting interventions designed to reduce health disparities among racially and ethnically diverse males and their subpopulations age 21 and older.

The NIH is committed to supporting research that will increase scientific understanding of the health status of various population groups and improve the effectiveness of health interventions and services for individuals within those groups. High priority is placed on research on populations that appear to have distinctive health risk profiles but have received insufficient attention from investigators. This FOA highlights a particular community: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and related populations (designated here as LGBTI populations). Basic, social, behavioral, clinical, and services research relevant to the missions of the sponsoring Institutes and Centers may be proposed.

The purpose of this FOA is to outline priority areas for research related to women's mental health during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Priority areas include basic and clinical neuroscience, studies of clinical course, epidemiological factors and risk factors, as well as interventions and services research. The NIMH, NICHD, and NIDA are committed to supporting research that will increase scientific understanding of and treatments for mental disorders experienced by women during and following pregnancy. Reduction of the public health burden of mental disorders during this perinatal period will improve the health and well-being of new mothers, their children and families.

The overarching goal of this solicitation is to provide support for the National Institute of Justice's Violence Against Indian Women (VAIW) program of research. In partnership with other federal, State, local and tribal stakeholders, NIJ has developed a program that will (1) produce a deeper understanding of the issues faced by Native American women living in tribal communities, (2) evaluate state, local, or tribal government responses to violence against American Indian (AI) and Alaska Native (AN) women, and (3) provide information and expertise that assists in the formulation of public policies and prevention strategies to decrease the incidence of violent crimes against AI and AN women. |

The FOA encourages Research Project Grant (R21) applications that propose to: (1) foster multidisciplinary research that will evaluate how policies (federal, state and school district levels) can influence school physical activity and nutrition environments, youths' obesogenic behaviors (e.g., nutrition and physical activity behaviors), and weight outcomes; (2) understand how schools are implementing these policies and examine multi-level influences on adoption and implementation at various levels (e.g., federal, state, school district, and school); and (3) understand the synergistic or counteractive effect of school nutrition and physical activity polices on the home and community environment and body weight.
