LEPTOSPIROSIS  (Lepto)

THE INFORMATION CONTAINED HEREIN
CAN SAVE YOUR DOGS LIFE
PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ

Leptospirosis is caused by exposure to several types of the Leptospira bacteria, which can be found in fresh water that has been contaminated by animal urine.

While it is most common in more tropical climates, it can affect us in our warmer months.  Animals in the enviornment such as rats squirells, raccoons, etc. can pass this along through their urine into the puddles around us that our dogs love to drink in.

The disease can be very devastating.  THE SHOT TO PREVENT THIS DISEASE CAN ALSO BE DEVASTATNG.  PLEASE READ ON.

I am mentioning this and dedicating this newsletter LEPTO because there is a shot to prevent this awful disease.   Most vets will give our dogs an annual shot and included in this shot is vaccine for Lepto.  For smaller breeds this shot is much too strong.   I have heard too many stories lately about dogs and puppies that have gotten sick from the shot - VERY SICK.

Your vet MUST give this shot to your dog as a separate shot.  I'm not sure if vets are unaware that it needs to be separate or they are just used to treating larger breeds, but for our smaller dogs, this is so important.

PLEASE educate your vet if he suggests to include Lepto in your dog's shot.  And I'm not by any means saying that it happens more than 50% of the time, or whatever... but 1 or 2 times that I hear means many more that I don't.  It's not worth it!!!  Smaller dogs are known to NOT TOLERATE this shot well.

I'm sending an article of interest if you want more info...  This is too important a subject to let pass you by.
