Roland Lester
East Hartford Resident Returns to Manufacturing Workforce

When he left Connecticut some years ago, Roland Lester was an experienced tool and die maker. That's why he was surprised to find he could not find a job as a machinist when he returned. "Technology these days is completely changed," the 54-year-old observes. While he was working in New Mexico, "I fell behind." That is no longer the case. Click here to read more

New Announcements

Student Email Update

As you may have heard, all Connecticut Community College students were assigned an email address as of October 1, 2012. Starting January 1, 2013, this will be the only email address we will use to communicate with our students. This means we have roughly two months to get the word out and help the students login to their new email account.

We have waited to do a major announcement to students until some of the implementation issues have been worked out, and we are now preparing to begin a marketing campaign to let students know about their new email address. Over the next few weeks you will begin to see posters around campus to inform students of their new email account as well as notices sent through other media.

We can all help get the word out by making sure that students in your classes and offices know that they should login to myCommNet and click on the Student Tab to find their new email address and view instructions for logging in. If they have trouble logging in to their new email account, they can call the MCC HelpDesk at 860-512-3456.

Election Year Politics: Protocols for Office Talk Part III (Handling Harassment):

No employee should feel compelled to agree with or remain silent in the face of aggressive political advocacy. Attempts to embarrass, ostracize, harass or punish employees for their political ideologies can create a hostile work environment.

If you are uncomfortable with the discussion of politics at your workplace, it's recommended that you make your feelings known and politely assert your wish to avoid political discussion at the office. If met with resistance or retaliation, report your discomfort to a supervisor or a Human Resources representative. EAP is also available to talk with.

Call Solutions EAP at 1-800-526-3485 for assistance for all of life's challenges. It's free, confidential and open to your family members.
