Hill-Murray PioNerds Scrimmage at Week Zero

The PioNerds participated in the 2016 Week Zero Scrimmage on Saturday, Feb. 20th at Eagan High School.  The scrimmage takes place every year at the end of the six week build period before teams turn in their robots to the FIRST Robotics League.  The PioNerds had great success at this year's scrimmage and were one of the few teams to launch a boulder into the opposing team's castle wall after climbing over difficult obstacles - an extraordinarily challenging task.  Coach Gapinski and part of the team are not pictured here - they worked in the shop all day Saturday building a replica robot to train with in the off-season before regionals in April.  Their work exemplifies what servant leadership' means to us and is equally appreciated.  Hill-Murray's STEAM program grows exponentially every year and while the robotics program is relatively new, it has done very well.

Current Hill-Murray Student in Need of Host Family

Tony Wu is a 10th grade international student from China, and has been a student at Hill-Murray for the past year.  School life at Hill-Murray has provided him a wonderful experience both academically and in cocurricular activities.  As an out-going and hard-working young man, Tony is very active in theatre, Student Council, BBC, and acts as a Student Ambassador.  Tony is very friendly and self-disciplined, and has gotten along well with his host family members.  His current host family is expecting a new baby, so Tony has to look for another family to stay with from March 2016 through the 2016-2017 school year.  If you can help, please contact Tony at zeyu.wu@hmstudents.org for more information.

Scanlon Performs at Orchestra Hall

Congratulations to Symphonic Band trombonist, Rory Scanlon, who participated in the recent Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA) concert held at Orchestra Hall on February 13 under the direction of Peter Haberman, Mark Russell Smith, and Kevin Sedatole.  The MMEA's mission is to provide talented student musicians with the opportunity and tools to become their very best.  Through a nomination process by their school, and an audition process by the MMEA, the top 300 band, orchestra, and choir students from all over Minnesota are invited to join a rigorous series of master classes taught by accomplished instrumentalists and directors that culminates in a fantastic concert. Hill-Murray is proud to have been well-represented at this distinguished event.  Way to go, Rory!

Vander Heyden Performs with Marquette University Pep Band

A big Hill-Murray Band shout out to senior, Kevin Vander Heyden, who performed with the Marquette University pep band at a basketball game over President's Day weekend. This was a fabulous opportunity for a high school student to be part of a major college event. Talking with Kevin about his experiences he recalls, "Their band sounded great and the school spirit was awesome!"  Congratulations Kevin!

Area Middle Schoolers Perform With the H-M Band

On Saturday, February 13, the Hill-Murray Pep Band had about 25 guest band members for the boys hockey game at Aldrich Arena. Twenty or more of our own H-M middle school band, two parish band students, and two students from Transfiguration joined in the fun and played with gusto. They sounded awesome!  Thanks H-M Band for being great hosts for the afternoon.

Come Support the H-M Band on March 8th!

Weeknights are busy; let us handle dinner for you!  Come to the H-M Café for a delicious pasta dinner catered by Tinucci's Restaurant complete with pasta, meatballs, salad, bread, dessert, and beverage.  Afterwards, all are invited to the auditorium for a concert featuring each of our H-M bands.   Dinner proceeds support the band department.  An RSVP is appreciated to ensure an accurate dinner count.  See the flyer and RSVP form for details.

Share Your Hill-Murray Story!

Once we have children it becomes essential to our natural being to want nothing less than the very best for them.  We want to see our kids excel and succeed in every aspect of life, especially in their education.  As a parent at Hill-Murray, we want to know what made you decide to send your child or children to a Catholic College Preparatory High School.  What was the draw in factor, as a parent, that Hill-Murray had that you did not see anywhere else?  What aspects of Hill-Murray School have impacted your children, their future, and your family?  We are collecting these stories to share with potential Hill-Murray families.  Please take the time to write down your Hill-Murray story and email it to Shawn Illgen at sillgen@hill-murray.org.  Thank you, in advance, for your help!

Junior Retreat - Faith in Action

The junior class retreats were held February 11th and 23rd, and involved a day of service at eight sites across the metro.  The day began with a Poverty Simulation activity facilitated by volunteers from Second Harvest.  Students assumed the identity of a real-life individual living in the Twin Cities struggling to meet the housing, food, and transportation needs of their family.  These challenging lessons were further understood as students spent time serving meals at Christopher's Place, Dorothy Day, and Union Gospel Mission.  They also sorted donations at ARC Thrift Store and Tubman, and cleaned at Solid Ground, Hope for the Journey and Family Service Center.  It was a day to put our faith into action.  Good job, juniors!

Parents Needed to Help With Service Project

There is a parent opportunity for you to work with Hill-Murray students making a difference in our world.  Hill-Murray will be donating a meal at Solid Ground on Tuesday, March 29 from 4:15 - 7:00 p.m.  Solid Ground supports families that are presently in transition from homelessness to affordable housing.  This meal will be for families in need.  If you are interested, please contact Sister Linda at sisterlinda@hill-murray.org or 651-748-2460.  There are only 4 openings for a parent/child team.  Thank you.
Spa Day at Livingwell Disability Services

Residents at Livingwell Disability Services enjoyed their spa evening as Hill-Murray students treated them to manicures and pedicures. Thank you, students, for providing a fun and relaxing evening that has become a favorite for the residents!
Guatemala 2016

During Spring Break 2016, Spanish students will be traveling to Guatemala for touring and service work.  This is Hill-Murray's 5th trip to Guatemala where students will be working at the San Lucas Tolimán mission, touring Antigua, Panajachel, and other areas.  Students will be bringing donations to the mission.  If you would like to donate new school supplies, there will be a box in the Main Office.   Any donation would be greatly appreciated.

Join us for Sister Linda's 25th Jubilee Celebration!

Prioress, Sister Paula Hagen, and the Sisters at St. Paul's Monastery invite you to the 25th Jubilee reception of Sister Linda Soler.  The celebration will be held at Hill-Murray on Sunday, April 10th from 2:00-5:00 p.m.  Come congratulate Sister Linda and thank her for all she has done to help our students and community.
Adoration Times

Adoration is an extension of the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament during the Mass. Christ sits directly before us as we enter into a time of great spiritual intimacy and transformation. You can spend your time reading, in private prayer, reflection, praying the Rosary, or simply sitting with the Lord. There is not only one way to pray during adoration.  Come as you are, and pray as you feel comfortable praying!

Time spent in Adoration will transform you, your family, and our Hill-Murray community.  Please join us as we take one day a month to grow spiritually, uphold our students and staff with prayer, and come together as a family of faith.

Eucharistic Adoration with Daily Mass at 7:00 a.m. and Benediction at 2:00 p.m. will be on March 4 and April 11.
Adoration will begin after all school Mass at 10:30 a.m. on May 13.

For more information, or to sign up for a time slot, please contact Anne McCulloch at amcculloch@hill-murray.org.
