Elder Care Spring Newsletter 2013

Dear All,

I hope you are staying well.  The cold and flu season is a hard time of year for many elders and caregivers, potentially adding to the stress of providing care.  Please consider going a little slower and being a little gentler with yourself.  Warmer, longer, and hopefully healthier days are ahead!

This Spring we are offering several new workshops, including using mindfulness to reduce caregiver stress.  We will also be hosting a panel of elder resource experts on 4/24, as well as having the return of a popular workshop, Older Driver Safety on 2/27, presented.  I hope you will be able to attend one or all of the workshops.

If you wish to meet personally with me to discuss your elder care concern, please call CARE Services, 510-643-7754 to arrange for a face-to-face or telephone appointment.

Take care,

Maureen

Did you know...
 ...about the Eden Alternative?
The Eden Alternative is seeking to remake the experience of aging around the world. The core concept of The Eden Alternative is strikingly simple. Dr. William Thomas, his wife Judy, the Eden home office staff, 50 Eden Educators, 60 mentors and more than 15,000 associates teach that where elders live must be habitats for human

beings, not sterile medical institutions.

They are dedicated to eliminating the plagues of loneliness, helplessness, and boredom that make life intolerable in most of today's long-term care facilities. The Eden Alternative seeks to accomplish this by de-institutionalizing elder care facilities and engaging the residents.

If you are interested in the Eden Alternative or other elder care living arrangements, either locally or outside of California, please call to make an appointment with Maureen Kelly, Elder Care Counselor at 510-643-7794.

Movie Suggestion: "Amour"

"Amour - nominated for a best picture Oscar- is a movie about an elderly, long-married couple in which the wife is dying. That's not a spoiler; it's the film's premise. And it cuts right to the chase about what it's like to grow old with someone.

Suffice it to say that if you thought "On Golden Pond" was depressing, fasten your seat belts. This is a refreshingly honest, unvarnished and difficult-to-watch film about love and aging."
