Sailing With Style
American Sailing E-News
February 2013

Greetings!

With February rolling around, we can almost begin to dream of summer! Of course, it's always summer in Miami, and you'll be able to find ASA at the Strictly Sail Miami boat show from the 14th to the 18th. We'll be working with Discover Boating to give free lessons using a sailing simulator, and taking people out sailing on the bay with our hands-on clinics and seminars. And that's just some of what Strictly Sail Miami has to offer, so we hope you'll come help us celebrate our 30th anniversary year!

Please enjoy, and email us with your suggestions so that we can continue to improve it. We hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

Charlie Nobles
Executive Director

Answer to Trivia question
The term "Shake A Leg" originated in Portsmouth, where women would come aboard naval vessels to aid ship
morale. Each morning the petty officer would shout for the occupants of hammocks to shake a leg. If the leg was smooth and shapely, the occupant was allowed to sleep in;
if the leg was hairy, the officer turned out the hammock for the sailor to swab the deck.
