It is hard to believe that ISOPP 2014 has come and gone. What an excellent Symposium it was!
From the opening plenary with amazing, energetic cancer survivor Mike Lang to the closing plenary with panelists from around the world sitting together on the stage discussing global perspectives on oncology issues, the program was packed with excellent thought provoking, informative presentations.
I could write pages about how wonderful the ISOPP Symposium was. The planning Committee did an excellent job. CAPhO was well represented and huge thanks to Tara Leslie and Carlo DeAngelis for giving up so much of their time and effort to make this event such a success!
One unique format tried at this ISOPP, that most of the CAPhO Executive participated in as facilitators, was the Hot Topic Cluster discussions. This forum provided an opportunity for roundtable discussions on pre-arranged topics that participants had signed up for. It gave us all a chance to slow things down for 90 minutes, and meet with people from other countries to discuss oncology topics in a small group setting. I really enjoyed it, and I met some really interesting people from countries such as Kenya and Switzerland!
Thanks to technology, the ISOPP presentations have been recorded and can be found in the members section of the CAPhO website for your viewing pleasure!
While we were in Montreal, the CAPhO Executive conducted our spring face to face meeting and we also held the CAPhO 2014 AGM. The minutes will be posted on the CAPhO website.
2014 is already a busy year with your CAPhO Executive and their committees working hard behind the scenes updating programs and creating some new programs. Work on CAPhO 2020 has already begun ... you will be hearing more about this initiative soon.
The planning committee is already working on the CAPhO Conference to be held May 21-24, 2015 in St. John's, Newfoundland.
I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for joining CAPhO. Thanks to those involved in committee and task force work and to those of you who take the time to write for the CAPhO Compass, read what is written and to participate in the forum discussions when you can.
Please encourage your co-workers to take a look at the CAPhO website, see what we have to offer and to consider joining CAPhO!
