Construction Update
Volunteers may sign up with VolunteerUP, our on-line calendar, to work at any active construction site.
We have a certificate of occupancy for 16 Bevan Way and the house closing is scheduled for next week. Over at 10 Bevan Way, the wall board is up and plastered, and we are starting work on the interior. Work days at this site are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Barnstable
Wallboard is complete and the site will be closed to volunteers for about two weeks, to allow the plaster to go up and dry. We will be back in the house to complete the interior later in April. Work days at this site will be Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Harwich
Snow covering this site is starting to melt, and it is now safe to drive down the road without fear of getting stuck. We still hope to start volunteer construction in the late spring. Before we can raise walls, the site needs water mains, electrical conduit, and asphalt roads, and we are working to schedule those crews now. A little more snow melted will help.

Greetings!
We hope you are enjoying the longer daylight each evening. The snow is slowly melting, and we have never been more eager to see what emerges from under all those piles. We're especially looking forward to seeing the foundations we poured last fall in Harwich. We are itching to get to work there once the ground clears - alongside all seven of Habitat's newest homeowner families!

Volunteer Spotlight
We are sad to report that Dick Soule, one of Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod's co-founders, has died at the age of 95. Dick and his wife Phoebe, of Orleans, were inspired to spread the good word about Habitat for Humanity back in 1988, after volunteering on Habitat for Humanity build sites around the country. Dick and Phoebe spoke at their church about the good work they had seen the organization accomplish in other parts of the country, and their talk was so inspiring that a group of people decided to take action to start a Habitat affiliate here on the Cape. Dick and Phoebe remained active Habitat volunteers, both on Cape Cod and nationally, for many years. Dick especially liked to help with finish work on the homes.
Dick served in the Army during World War II, and again during the Korean War. He was a building contractor, with his own business in Lexington, MA. In 1971, he sold his business so that he and Phoebe could join the Peace Corps, and they traveled to Sierra Leone, Ethiopia and Fiji, before settling on Cape Cod in 1977. On the Cape, Dick ran a company producing Shaker boxes and fine furniture.
In addition to his work with Habitat for Humanity International and Habitat Cape Cod, Dick worked for Star Island conference center, was a leader in the Boy Scouts, worked as an instructor for Minuteman Technical School, was an officer of the Unitarian Laymen's League, and was an active leader at the Unitarian Meeting House of Chatham, MA.
