Eastham Community Kick-Off
Dennis 2010 wall raisingJoin us Saturday, May 5th from 3-5pm for our Eastham Community Kick-Off. The Kick-Off will take place at the Eastham United Methodist Church, 3200 State Highway Rt. 6. A Community Kick-Off is a great place to meet our new homeowners, Habitat staff, and other volunteers, to learn about the upcoming build on Sandy Meadow Way, and to sign up as a volunteer yourself! We are building two homes on Sandy Meadow Way, and there are many opportunities to help out. It's not all construction: we need food, registration, and other volunteers, too.

If you can't make the Kick-Off, contact Dawn Walnut at 508-362-3559 ext. 16 or dawn@habitat.org for more information.

Join the Greater Springfield Disaster Relief Blitz

Last June a tornado tore through Central Massachusetts. In Springfield alone, at least 558 homes were damaged. Fred Yarger, ad-hoc coordinator of our disaster relief trips, and a group of volunteers traveled to Monson, Massachusetts last August to help the Greater Springfield Habitat. Now Fred Thimme is working with Fred Yarger to organize a group to participate in GSHH's Blitz Build, when four houses for tornado affected families will be raised and made tight in a single week, starting June 1 - the one year anniversary of the tornado.

Our group will travel late afternoon or early evening Friday,

June 1 and be working full day shifts on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Trinity United Methodist Church is providing a place to stay. Funds raised by our own Helping Hammers group will substantially defray the costs of housing, a contribution to our Springfield Habitat affiliate, and some expenses. Participants in this blitz build should budget approximately $40.00-$60.00 for expenses.

We'll be having an informational meeting about the trip here in our office later in May. To sign up to attend the meeting, or if you are interested in participating in the trip, please contact Dawn Walnut ASAP at dawn@habitatcapecod.org or 508-362-3559

ext. 16.

Check us out of Facebook!

We've got a brand-new Facebook page! And if you are looking for a very simple way to help Habitat, we have an idea for you - you can join our Volunteer Publicist team. All you have to do is "like" our new Facebook Page, and our ReStore Facebook Page. You will get Habitat updates on your own Facebook news feed. If you "share" the stories we post, your friends will see them, too. With just a few clicks of the mouse, you will be spreading our news to a wider audience.

We hope you will leave a comment and tell us what you think of the brand-new Facebook page. Or, better yet, tell us about your own Habitat experience and share it with our Facebook fans.

Jammin' for Julian

Kelly Moriarty and her son, Julian, partnered with Habitat in 2010, building a two-bedroom home in Dennis. Julian was recently diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic Leukemia, and is currently an inpatient at Childrens Hospital Boston, receiving intensive chemotherapy treatments.

A benefit event, Jammin' for Julian, will be held on May 19, 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Improper Bostonian to offset the costs associated with his treatment and to help Kelley pay the her bills while she is in Boston and out of work.

Several bands will be performing, there will be events and activities for kids during the day and into the night, a silent auction, a raffle and door prizes. For more information, check out their Facebook page here.
