Greetings!

All site Habitat build sites are up and running...phew! We have almost 1000 volunteers registered to work at any or all of these sites, thank you! But please know we still need your help...as one home may be getting closer to completion, another site may be closed for contractor work and four other sites may need lots of volunteers at once.  All the information is on our on-line calendar on Volunteer Up. You can also call the Volunteer Coordinator for the build you are interested in to check on the specific needs. If you are a new volunteer, just go to our web site, www.habitatcapecod.org
and click on the Volunteer Up button (like the one below) and sign up!

V-Up button

Our first home, Cross Street in Dennisport,  started back in April and should be finishing up around the end of November. Then each month another home will be  finished and our new homeowners will be moving in. So join us now to experience all that is the Habitat building experience!

Thank you for all you do for us- we couldn't do it without you!

Annual Meeting Award Winners

Ev Stoyle Spirit of Service Award

 nancy giving thanks

Nancy and Bill Erskine were this year's recipients of our only "Secret" award at our Annual Meeting on September 29. Though surprised and honored, Nancy took a moment to thank everyone and Bill added that he has learned so much from all the volunteers who helped him out when he first started with Habitat. Jan Stoyle and her daughter Kimberly Wohlbold presented the award.
Congratulations to the Erskines!

Habitat Partner Award
                       Jim Murphy
Jim Murphy, trustee for the Bennett Charitable Foundation, accepted the award for his family. Jim mentioned that though they are a small family foundation, they have been so impressed with the work of Habitat that they had given a second gift this year to support the building of the Wellfleet house after sponsoring a house at Gomes Way in Harwich in 2009. Thank you Bennett Charitable Foundation!

Golden Hammer Award
                  Bill Ciocca National Grid
National Grid has supported Habitat's work for the past several years with grant funds and teams of volunteers to help build at our sites. Bill Ciocca accepted the award
on behalf of National Grid. Thank you National Grid!
Cheers & Kudos & tidbits

Cheers and get well wishes:

Anne Corrieri, our office manager had knee replacement surgery on October 1 and is doing well. She should be back at her desk by mid-November. We all miss her smiling face and can't wait for her return!

Good luck and Godspeed:

To Sue Daggett, our Director of Resource Development, who left our organization on October 1 after 5 years of doing a great job of raising money, working with volunteers and lending a hand wherever she could (including on our build sites, she is very handy with a hammer!). We wish her the best and thank her for all she has done for our organization.

Congratulations:  patience of job award

To our Director of Construction, Mike Williams, on being the first (and only?) recipient of the Patience of Job award presented to him by Richard Carroll on behalf of his House Leaders at our Annual Meeting. A well-deserved and very appropriate award!

This election day, November 2, there is a ballot initiative to repeal the state affordable housing law- also known as Chapter 40B. This law was enacted in 1969 to address local zoning and land use restrictions that make it impossible or economically infeasible to build affordable housing under local zoning. Since 2001 Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has built 60 homes in towns on Cape Cod. 47 of those were made possible by Chapter 40B- over 78%. A NO vote on November 2 will keep the affordable housing law on the books and Habitat will be able to continue building more homes for our neighbors in need of safe, decent, affordable housing.
For more information on Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod, please visit our web site, come to one of our monthly volunteer orientations or if you live in the Upper Cape area, come to a chapter meeting on the first Monday night of every month at the Mashpee Senior Center at 7 PM.
If you would like to support Habitat's work in our community by making a donation, you can do so on-line Donate to HHCC or you can contact Vicki Goldsmith, Executive Director at 508-775-3559 ext. 15 or vg @habitatcapecod.org
