Hi there!

Welcome to Week 1 of the Winter Share 2016/17!

We're so excited to welcome you to the Winter Share! You guys are our most committed Forkers: meeting us whatever the weather to collect your bags, trying out every new recipe for butternut squash, and watching the seasons change from fall to winter and back to spring through the lens of veggies.

If you haven't signed up yet, there is still room in the share!

Just reply to this email, "I want in!!" or click here and fill out this super easy form and we'll get you all squared away to join us for this first week.

There's a lot to cover in this first newsletter, but first and foremost we'd like to welcome you (or welcome you back!) to our program. Fresh Fork Market connects the bounty of local farms to the communities in the greater Cleveland area. We take great care in choosing which farmers we work with-- mostly small, Amish, family-run farms that practice traditional and organic farming methods-- and we work really hard to bring you the freshest, best-tasting food available.

Now to the fun stuff: what's in the bag?? This week we're featuring a big, juicy, pasture-raised chicken as the center of the Omnivore bags. Our chickens are raised outdoors-- foraging on fresh pasture and getting all the benefits and exercise of outdoor living. There's a big difference between pasture-raised (ours) and free-range (not ours), even if they're both organic: click here to read more.

Each bag will also get a huge whomp of fresh produce: sweet potatoes, kale, beets, grape tomatoes, an onion, broccoli, some shallots, apples, lettuce and Brussels sprouts.

The Vegetarian Shares will get some celery, carrots, and a four-serving container of Chef Parker's Vegetarian Lasagna. It contains green beans, carrots, black beans, onions, egg noodles, a bchamel sauce (butter, flour, milk, nutmeg & Flat Rock raw milk cheese), tomato sauce, garlic, green bell peppers and fresh herbs. Allow to thaw in the fridge then come to temp on the counter. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 until the top is golden and the center is cooked through. If baking from frozen, add an extra 15 minutes.

At the bottom of this newsletter, you'll find the full list of bag contents as well as a PDF to print and bring with you to the stop.  Our bag contents do sometimes change from what we had originally anticipated, most often due to weather. If there is a change in the bag, your Greeters will let you know when you pick up.

Thanksgiving is just over three weeks away!

Have you placed your order yet? Click here to let us know what you need, put down a $25 deposit, and that's all for now!

Reminders

Pick ups are every week for the first three weeks and then every other week after that.

There are a total of 15 Share Weeks during the Winter Share, and for the first three weeks (Nov 2nd-5th, 9th-12th, and 16th-19th) they're every week. The week of Thanksgiving is the first "skipped" week (only Thanksgiving orders picked up during that week.) And heads up: there is a pick up on Saturday, New Year's Eve this year.

Click on the link for your stop on our Winter Pick Up locations page and you'll find the dates of each of your pick ups. We suggest marking them in your calendars so you don't forget!

We have the same vacation policy as during the Summer Share-- as long as you schedule it at least a week ahead of time, you can miss up to four share weeks and get the credit back in your account when you return. More on that here.

Not all weeks are created equal, but they will even out over the course of the share.

Some bags will be bigger or smaller than others over the course of the share. At first, the bags are heavy and full of cold-hardy vegetables like squashes, root veggies and dark leafy greens. Towards the middle of season, you'll begin to see some more frozen fruits and vegetables that were processed at their height of flavor during the summer. At the end of the season, the bags will be smaller, but you'll start to see some signs of spring like eggs, tender greens and green-house grown lettuces.

Place a Special Order for extras!

The quickest way to order your extras is by placing a Special Order, which need to be placed AND paid for in full by Tuesday of the share week at midnight to be on the routes. Click here for our guide on how to place an order online

Of course, we will have tons of extras for sale at the trucks, too, so don't worry if you haven't made up your mind yet.

If you miss your stop, head to another one.

It happens-- traffic, after school pick ups, snowball fights-- we get it. If you miss your stop, check out our full list of Winter Pick Up Locations, and head to another one. You don't need to let us know (unless you placed a Special Order, which will go to your assigned stop)-- we always pack extras on each route to accommodate members who need to grab their bag at another location.

If you miss Tremont (the last stop of the week), we're really sorry but we cannot refund you the week. If you know the week ahead that you'll be missing a stop, schedule a vacation

On Wednesday of each share week we post the pictures of what's in your shares.

When everything is picked up from the farms on Wednesday morning and brought back to our warehouse for distribution on the routes, we take pictures of each bag and each item and post them online. Click this link to see last year's bags, and if you follow us on Facebook or Instagram you'll see the posts as well.

Tell your friends-- we've packed some extra bags on each truck.

If you're receiving this newsletter but haven't signed up, we've ordered about 50 extra shares for this week.

If you're already a member, don't worry your bag is guaranteed, but if you haven't signed up yet bring a check to the stop and it's first come, first served!
