It's Week 21 and we've passed the first frost.

With the daytime temperatures up well into the 70s in most of the Cleveland area, this news may be surprising, but this past Friday marked a big change in the farming community with the first frost. A full moon in a cloudless sky is beautiful, but without the insulating blanket of cloud cover, temperatures dropped to 32 in parts of Holmes county and about 35 in the Lodi/Homerville area.

The frost wasn't quite enough to kill warm-weather plants like zucchinis, eggplants, cukes, and tomatoes, but as Trevor puts it, "just enough to tickle the leafy greens and root vegetables." We will have grape tomatoes in the bag this week, because Jonas (one of our farmers) has his in a high tunnel to protect them. Cold hardy crops like kale, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower should still be safe until close to Thanksgiving, depending of course on the weather.

What's in the bag: we have a butternutty bag for you all this week. Each bag will get a butternut squash and a pound of Ohio City Pasta's Butternut Sage Linguine (the Vegan Shares will get a medley of vegetables instead of the pasta.) There is no meat in the Small Omnivore Shares this week, but the pasta instead. Each bag will also get some grape tomatoes, as mentioned earlier, some apples, and a bunch of cold-hardy veggies: broccoli, cauliflower, turnips and kale.

The Large Shares will get some Napa cabbage, Italian links (Large Vegetarian Shares will get cheese and eggs), onion and lettuce. With this change in weather and change in produce, it's easy to see that we're beginning the slide into the Winter Share. There is still room if you haven't signed up! Special Events

It's time again for our Annual Thanksgiving Beer Class, and if you've never attended before or if you come every year, this is a class not to be missed!

Chefs Parker & Adam and the rest of the Fresh Fork Staff will be teaching Thanksgiving 101-- we'll cover brining, roasting, carving, planning and prepping. And the whole fun and informative evening will be capped off with a full Thanksgiving Feast-- dozens of sides, piles of creamy mashed potatoes, steaming pots of soup, buttery biscuits and of course, lots of turkey.

Bring a pen, some tupperware and get ready to tuck into our tastiest class of the year!

$45 per participant covers instruction, take-home recipe packet, full Thanksgiving Dinner and a paired tasting flight of beers from Market Garden Brewery.

Featured Products
Sauerkraut

We still have some more jars from this year's first harvest of Sauerkraut. It's made with just organic green cabbage and pink himalayan salt.

It is a live product, so best kept in the fridge and enjoyed within 3-6 months-- it's safe after that, but it'll just be softer. The jar lid should be "burped" occasionally to release gas pressure.

$7 per quart

Erie Bone Broth

We have Beef, Chicken & Turkey Bone Broth back in stock-- just in time for soup season!

These rich, protein-laden broths begin with bones from pasture-raised animals, which are then are soaked and simmered in small batches with apple cider vinegar and cold filtered water for 24 full hours to help pull out the nutrients and minerals from the bones. Fresh herbs and aromatics are then added to the broth to boost flavor, without any added salt.

Keep the 24 oz spout bags frozen for up to 6 months, or thawed for a week in the fridge. When you're ready to use a frozen bag, gently thaw by running the bag under warm water and then put the whole bag in a pot of water over medium-low heat on the stovetop. Use it in stews, risotto, soup, or enjoy on its own!

$15 for a 24 ounce bag.
