It's officially summer in Ohio, and Week 4 is going to be a delicious start to the new season.

The summer solstice was yesterday, and no one would doubt it: it's been pretty hot out there, so if you all wouldn't mind doing a little rain dance for our farmers, they would certainly appreciate it!

Before we get to it, we had some Special Orders issues come up at a few stops last week, so we just wanted to start off with a friendly reminder on how they work:
  • Special Orders must be placed & paid for in full by Tuesday at midnight to go on the routes that week.

  • If you place an order after Tuesday at midnight, it will be on the next week's routes. If you don't want the order the following week, just shoot us an email and we'll cancel it for you. You can also tell your Greeter at your stop.

  • Special Orders come to your primary pick up location on file (the one you registered for.) If you miss you stop but still want your order, please email us ASAP so that we can re-route it.

Bok Choy
Tatsoi

This week's bag is very green:  lettuce & kale for all, and broccoli & swiss chard for the veggies and vegans, & some zucchini and cucumbers.  Our Large Share subscribers will also see the greens pictured above-- a head of Bok Choy and Tatsoi. They are great in a stir fry, or the tender leaves and stalks can be chopped & eaten raw.

The omnivores this week will find some Italian sausage links in their bags, too: salt, pepper and some red pepper flakes add a little zing to fresh (as opposed to smoked) sausages. Four big links per pack, about 1.25#. Great roasted in the oven, stuffed into peppers or zucchini boats, or grilled. If grilling, use slow, indirect heat. Check out our Sausage Guide for more cooking instructions.

A note on strawberries: the veggies and vegans will see what is likely the tail-end of strawberries, but we can't be sure we will have them every day. Especially for something as perishable as berries, we pack only what we've picked fresh that day, so it all changes day by day based on the weather and harvest.  If there is a substitution, your Greeter will let you know... but don't fret, fruit lovers! We have lots more berries coming down the pipeline.

Some of you might have noticed some snow peas in your bags last week as a little surprise-- we had enough for about half the stops, so the other half should get them this week, which is why they are listed in parentheses on the bag contents sheets. If you didn't receive them last week and don't get them this week either, don't worry we are keeping track and it will all even out!

Last night was our Chicken 101 class and it was such a blast! Thank you so much to everyone who showed up and got messy with us. Check out Summer Events Calendar on our website to keep up to date on all the great classes and parties all season-long!

Here's Chef Adam Lambert demonstrating how to properly mix, form and season a burger. Can't you just smell the grill and taste the ice cold craft beer?

Join us next Monday for class out on the patio at MGB!

Reminders
Middleburg Heights stop will end at 6:00pm this week.

Because of the Summer in the City Festival & parade this week (details here), we'll be ending the Middleburg Heights stop at 6:00pm.

If you place a Special Order but miss your stop:

When you place a Special Order online, that order will come to your primary pick up location on file. So if you're registered for Westlake, that's where it's going!

If you miss the stop and you can't make it to Avon to meet the truck later on, your Special Order will be sent back to the warehouse and you will be refunded.

If it's not the end of the week and you still want to pick up your order, please email us ([email protected]), preferably forwarding your Special Order Confirmation, so that we can re-route your order and bring it with us to meet you at a different location.

Rocky River: please park in the Market Parking Lot.

Please use the Market parking lot and not the empty lot next to the truck. Be careful of your fellow subscribers and patrons coming in and out of the lot and restaurant!

We always overpack the trucks (especially the Saturday routes) so that if people miss their own stops during the week they can still get a bag, but if you find that you're consistently going to a different stop (say.... Rocky River!) instead of your own stop, it would really help our planning if you would officially switch:
    • Sign into your account

    • I want to: "Manage My Subscriptions"

    • Click on the Location tab

    • Use the dropdown menu to change Pick Up/Drop off Location (make sure you've selected the stop that ends in Summer 2016)

    • Click Save!

If you forget to pick up your bag, we cannot refund you the credit

Life comes up, you get busy at work/with kids/last minute trip, and you forget to pick up your bag. Unfortunately, unless you have registered your vacation (which you need to have done the week before, more details here), we cannot refund you the credit. We have already bought and paid for your food for that week, packed it on the truck and driven it to your stop. If you don't pick it up, we have to drive it back to our warehouse, unpack it from the truck, and then we make special routes to donate any extra food to various food banks and churches in the city.

If you realize you've missed your stop but can still make it to another one (Tremont is the last stop of the week, which goes from 10:00-2:00pm on Saturdays), high-tail it and grab your bag. You can also call a friend or a neighbor to grab your bag for you, all they need is your name and we can look up your account.
