Hi there!
How is it already Week 3 of the Summer Share?!
Time is flying over here at the Fork. We're up to our elbows in beautiful produce from this heat. We have a delicious and spicy bag in store for you this week, and we're excited to see you out on the routes!
As a reminder, we will be there regardless of the weather-- even if it's pouring. If it's going to be raining at your stop this week (currently predictions of a chance of rain Wednesday-Friday), grab an umbrella and think about any extras you'd like to buy in line so your Greeters can grab them for you quickly when you get to the front. Or better yet, place a Special Order online.
And just a heads-up: storms mean trouble for berries. We are hoping and planning to have strawberries for everyone's bags this week, but your Greeters will inform you of any substitutions at the stops if needed.
So what's in the bag this week: we have a fiesta of a bag with some chorizo, black beans, corn crackers from Shagbark Seed & Mill, cilantro, some spinach (not the baby leaf variety, but mature spinach that's great for braising and soups) and lots of other delicious veggies. Throw a taco party on the back porch! Our vegetarian and vegan subscribers will get to dig into some cauliflower and summer squash instead of the chorizo-- maybe a mixed veggie grill?
Chicken 101 is next Monday for all of you who signed up-- if you missed the boat, send us an email ( info@freshforkmarket.com) and we'll put you on the cancellation list just in case someone needs to drop out.
We do still have room in our Grilling & Burgers class with Chef Adam Lambert on Monday, June 27th-- learn all about cooking on an outdoor grill, enjoy tons of delicious grilled foods and a sampler flight of beer from Market Garden Brewery! Here's the link to sign up.
|
| Here's Leon planting some Organic Cannellini Beans down at Wholesome Valley Farm. The black beans in your bags this week are grown and harvested like these-- organically and by hand.
A tip from Parker-- make the whole bag at once and freeze them in 1-3 cup portions with a little of their liquid. That way you have beans ready to eat (almost) as easy as canned! |

Register your vacation as soon as you know your dates.
We know that many of our subscribers like to take a little time off in the summer, and we want to give you the flexibility to not lose out while you're at the beach!
You can take 4 weeks off from the share over the season, and when you return you get your bag's value in credit added to your account. For example, if you're a Small Share subscriber, and you are taking off two weeks for the fourth of July, register them right away either by telling your Greeter, replying to this email, or by signing into your account and clicking on the "Vacations" tab. When you return you'll have $54 in credits in your account to spend on food!
A heads up: vacation credits are only good for purchases going forward, and cannot be applied to a balance you've already racked up. Also, vacation credits diminish by half after four weeks, so you need to spend them within a month of when you return!
For more information on vacations and how to register, click here.
Want to upgrade to a Large or Double Up?
If you are a Small Share Subscriber but want to try a Large Bag any given week, just place a Special Order for a "Large Upgrade." For $20, you can upgrade on individual weeks to get the bigger bag rather than upgrading to the larger subscription for the whole season.
Have a friend you want to convince to join the Fork and eat local? Then toss a "Double Up" in your cart online-- that's a Special Order for a whole second share bag, small or large. A great idea when you have lots of guests for the weekend, too.

Registration is now open for Chef Adam Lambert's Grilling & Burger Technique (with beer!) on Monday, June 27th! We'll be covering all the best techniques for grilling outdoors, including making the perfect burger. Each participant will enjoy lots of delicious grilled foods, side dishes, as well as a sampler flight of beer from Market Garden Brewery as we sit outside on the beautiful patio.
$45 per participant includes instruction, take home recipe packet, beer tasting flight, and lots of delicious food to sample. |
Grilled Tomato Salsa
Our tomato salsa is the perfect accompaniment to this week's bags: each glass jar is packed to the brim with wood-fire grilled tomatoes, spices, onions, pepper and cilantro.
Here is a photo of Chef Kent as he chars the tomatoes, onions, and peppers on an improvised wood-fire grill. Awesome flavor and a technique you won't get from commercial salsas.
Our Large Share subscribers will get a pint to try, but you might want to order a second jar-- the first one will be gone almost as soon as it's opened!
$7 per pint.

Candied Jalapeos
If you're throwing a taco party for Game 6, you should probably snag one of our spicy and tangy pickled jalapeos. Each half-pint jar contains jalapeos, water, cider vinegar, sugar, turmeric, celery seed, cayenne pepper powder, and garlic. The vinegar & sugar mellow some of the spiciness, but they still have just enough of a kick!
$5 per half-pint.
