Hi there

It's time for Week 9 and the start of August!

July has been a hot one, and it's looking like more of the same come August. You all will start to notice the change in the bag contents-- we're entering into the brightest colors of the season with tomatoes, beets, squashes, and melons. We have a fantastic bag put together for you all this week-- and don't forget if you come up with a great recipe you want to share, post it on our Facebook page

Thanks to everyone who joined us at last night's Vegan & Raw Foods Basics class-- it was a packed house and a huge hit! If you missed the class but want to learn more about Marisa DiCenso-Pelser and Raw Trainer Food and Wellness,

If you've ever heard that old adage "make hay when the sun shines," that season is right now. Basically, it's referring to the idea that when the getting is good, you gotta get to it, even if you're busy-- our farmers are running flat out harvesting their big (and getting bigger) bumper crops for Summer (think tomatoes, melons, cabbages, and soon eggplants and more squash) as well as planting for Fall, AND about to harvest and thresh all their wheat and oats. It's a pretty intense time to be on a farm, but no one ever said the life of a farmer is easy.

For example, this little one is riding along to check out the potato harvesting early in the morning.  Lots to manage, even for the kids on the farm.

Want to come check it out for yourself? Come to Threshing Day 2015 on August 8th-- a fantastic full-day tour at Wholesome Valley Farm with a demonstration of harvesting and threshing wheat, games and classes, and a delicious lunch. More info down below, or if you're feeling really eager to sign up and claim your spot on the wagon, click here

Here are some reminders and details about the program that are good to highlight:

We have tons of stuff available for Special Order on our website!

Some people are planners, and some like to fly by the seat of their pants. We totally get it -- do you! But in case you have your heart set on some chorizo, place a Special Order online. That way you know for certain that when you go to your stop (the one you registered for as your primary pick up location), you'll have a bag ready to go filled with all the granolas, honeys, and pork neck bones you've been dreaming of. All you have to do is fill it out and pay for it by tonight at midnight and it'll be ready and waiting when you grab your bag.

Pork Neck Bones, you say? Yup. We have hundreds of other products available for Special Order on our website. Everything from grape cider, sliced turkey breast, beautiful handmade pottery from local artists, venison, coffees, and bacon. Check it out and plan your menu for the week!

Announcements & Events

~  THRESHING DAY  ~
Saturday, August 8th

It's time for the 4th Annual Threshing Day at Wholesome Valley Farm! This is an all-day event at the beautiful Wholesome Valley Farms in Wilmot, OH. This is also one of our favorite events of the season-- it's a really special opportunity to visit the farm where much of our food comes from, and watch a generations-old practice of harvesting.

We'll watch a horse-drawn reaper harvest the oats, which are then fed by pitch fork into an antique thresher where the berry is separated from the stalk. Then you get wheat berries, which can be ground into flour!

Afterwards, we'll enjoy a delicious (and enormous!) traditional Threshing Day Lunch prepared by the Amish families participating in the threshing. After we've all had our fill of the chicken, corn, greens, potatoes and desserts, we'll have time for classes (whole grain bread baking, canning, & lacto-fermentation) and games for the little ones (a corn pit, egg collecting, a pony-train ride, and more!) Also, you'll have a opportunity to tour around the farm and meet the farmers and the animals.
