Receive the Master Equine Manager E-Learning Certificate by completing the comprehensive online program.
The hands-on evaluation is not required now but optional workshops will be available for anyone who is in the program. Hands-on programs can be held at Cazenovia College, NY; Iowa State University; University of Connecticut; and the University of Nebraska. House Appropriations Approves USDA Appropriations Bill
On July 8, 2015, the House Appropriations Committee approved its version of the FY 2016 Agriculture Appropriations bill. This bill provides funding for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the 2016 fiscal year (October 1, 2015 through September 30, 2016). The bill contains several provisions that impact the horse industry, including funding for USDA equine health activities and enforcement of the Horse Protection Act. Continue Reading

National Welfare Code of Practice
Did you know the American Horse Council and 50 National Horse Groups have adopted a National Welfare Code of Practice? The code addresses equine welfare and responsible care (1) by supporting a uniform Code of Practice regarding the responsible breeding, training, competing, care, use, enjoyment, health, transportation, and retirement of horses; and (2) by initiating communication with the public, the media, federal and state officials and within the horse community regarding these issues. $237,535 Personal Injury Verdict Upheld in Action Brought Against Sales Barn By Auction Visitor
Overview
The United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit has upheld a verdict in favor of the plaintiff in her personal injury action against the owner of an Iowa sales barn. The plaintiff was stepped on by a horse and severely injured while attending a draft horse auction. In upholding the verdict, the court interpreted Iowa's Domesticated Animal Activity Sponsor statute to find that the negligence action was allowed under Iowa Code § 673.2(4) because the plaintiff's injuries occurred "in a place designated by an animal activity sponsor as a place for persons who are not participants to be present." Foals and Salt Blocks

Is there a risk if foals have access to salt blocks? I have heard that they can become "addicted" to the salt and if they eat too much and die from it. I have also heard that their kidneys cannot cope with the salt until they are six months old. Is this true?? View Answer
