Aspen vanWalraven Memorial Scholarship 2014

McKee-Pownall Equine Services would like to congratulate Melissa Cusack on being the recipient of the Aspen vanWalraven Memorial Scholarship for 2014. Aspen, who was part of the McKee-Pownall team and a friend to everyone, participated in equestrian sport for the love of the horse. Aspen had the gift of seeing the positive in every situation and gave her unfailing support to others. She was very dear to us and an inspiration to all who knew her. We would like to thank everyone who made the effort to submit their applications.
We are growing again to better care for our clients and their horses.
Join us in welcoming new members to the McKee-Pownall Team!
Welcome Dr. Eva Hirmer

Dr. Eva Hirmer graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College and completed an internship in South Florida.  She joined MPES in August 2014 and is based out of the Niagara location. She is helping with emergency and relief coverage in the Niagara and Newmarket practices.  Within veterinary medicine she has strong interests in lameness, sport horse/performance medicine, emergency care, surgery, and dentistry.

Her spare time is primarily occupied by her menagerie of pets, including her Labrador-mutt "Macy" adopted from vet school, her two retired racing Thoroughbreds "Cool Buck" and "Kaminski", and a clowder of adopted cats.  Wanting to provide the best care possible for now-19-year old Cool Buck adopted from LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society was the reason Eva pursued a career in veterinary medicine and it is because of him that she holds a special spot in her heart for racehorses.

Welcome Charlene Walker
We would like to welcome Charlene Walker to the MPES team. Charlene joined the McKee-Pownall team in September 2014 as a Customer Service Representative at our Newmarket location. Before joining MPES, Charlene was a certified dog groomer for three years as well as and still is a riding instructor since 2007. In her spare time, Charlene enjoys riding and taking improv classes at Second City in Toronto.

Welcome Katie Vermeulen

Katie Vermeulen has joined the Campbellville team as a vet assistant in October 2014.

She is in her final semester at the University of Guelph completing her B.Sc degree in

honours Animal Biology. Her love for horses and the hunter riding discipline started at a

very young age and has only grown over the past 13 years. Before starting at McKee-

Pownall she has spent 6 years working as a vet assistant in small animal clinics and is

very excited to start her new role in the equine sector of the veterinary world.

Welcome Erin Roach
Erin joined the Newmarket Team as a part time  Veterinary Assistant in October 2014.  She has been actively involved in the horse industry for over 20 years as a Barn Manager, Coach and Trainer with Reining being her main discipline.  In her spare time she enjoys training and competing in Disc Dog events.
Did you know?
MRI is a diagnostic technique using a magnetic field to produce pictures of structures inside the body. MRI signals yield multiple images in the form of "slices" of the foot or distal limb in several different orientations.  MRI provides images of bone, fluid, and soft tissue and can also help to differentiate between active and chronic lesions. This enables us to observe injuries in a way that cannot be seen with any other equipment.
