GOVERNOR DEAL APPOINTS ATHENS CVB DIRECTOR CHUCK JONES TO GEORGIA TOURISM FOUNDATION
Athens, Georgia- May 30, 2013- Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has appointed Chuck Jones to the Georgia Tourism Foundation board of directors. The mission of the Georgia Tourism Foundation, under the administration of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, is to increase the economic strength of Georgia by promoting tourism through public/private partnerships.
Jones has been director of the Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau since 1996. He has served on numerous boards throughout his career, including the Georgia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus, where he was president for two years (2004 and 2005), and the Tourism Development Alliance of Georgia, where he was chair in 2008. He is a 31-year hospitality/tourism industry veteran who began his career in Alabama, first with the Alabama Tourism Department and culminating as director of sales at age 25 of a leading Montgomery, Alabama, hotel. Jones transitioned to local destination marketing organization work with the Jekyll Island Convention and Visitors Bureau, where he served as director of sales from 1986-96. Jones earned a bachelor's degree from Auburn University. He and his wife Dorothy have two sons, Joshua and Caleb.
