GULF SHORES, Ala.-It is with great honor that the publishers and editors of

"ConventionSouth believes that meeting planners and groups should be able to more easily find green meeting sites in the South, so we developed this annual certification program to recognize cities, hotels and meeting facilities that provide eco-friendly and energy-wise options for meetings and events," said ConventionSouth Associate Publisher Marlane Bundock. "The Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau and The Classic Center have proved worthy of receiving this certification based on the results of an in-depth questionnaire, which revealed a true dedication to conservation and protecting the environment through various eco-friendly services and the ability to assist meeting planners with their green meetings."
Meeting sites selected to receive this certification are given a Green Meetings Approved by ConventionSouth seal that distinguishes them as a green meetings provider. Meeting planners can feel confident that Green Meetings Approved by ConventionSouth cities, hotels and facilities conserve energy and fuel, reduce product use, reuse products, recycle products and use local products when available. And, Green Meetings Approved by ConventionSouth cities, hotels and facilities can assist groups to reduce their carbon footprint on the destination while in town for the meeting.
"Being a green meetings provider doesn't have to be complicated," Bundock said. "Offering recycle bins for attendees, turning off power in meeting rooms when they're not in use and providing beverages in pitchers rather than in cans or bottles are just some of the simple ways that meeting sites can be Green Meetings Approved by
