Annual "Holiday Spirits"
Museum Theatre Tour
of Athens House Museums

Dec. 8

ATHENS, GA (November 12, 2012) - The Athens Historic House Museum Association has forged a new partnership with The Circle Ensemble Theatre this year as part of its annual Holiday Spirits Museum Theatre Tour, scheduled for Saturday, December 8, 2012. In addition to the poignant and humorous short plays at the T.R.R. Cobb House and the Church-Waddel-Brumby House, Circle Ensemble has written and will be performing a brand NEW historical vignette at the Ware-Lyndon House. This special holiday edition of Classic City Tours' Museum Mile Tour will also include a guided tour of the Taylor-Grady House, with scrumptious seasonal refreshments prepared by the Junior League of Athens. During this festive tour of Athens' four house museums, participants will experience an evening of theater and delicious fun, along with an opportunity to learn more about the history of each house from professional tour guides. The Lyndon-House Arts Center Holiday Market and Athens Welcome Center Gift Shop will also be open to tour-goers that evening.

Three short museum theatre performances will be presented on the tour, where professional talent brings Athens' history to life. Each vignette is set during the Christmas holidays and reflects 19th century holiday traditions. At the Church-Waddel Brumby House, former UGA President Moses Waddel faces new pranks by mischievous Georgia students in a short play set in 1825. The T.R.R. Cobb House vignette, entitled "The Big Times," is set in the 1850s and will present a generational perspective on how enslaved families celebrated the holiday season. The evening's finale is a brand new vignette set in the 1880s, where Lyndon family ties cross social boundaries in this heartwarming play written and performed by The Circle Ensemble Theatre. Each short play will delight audiences of all ages with scenes of what life was like in Athens' grandest homes.

The Holiday Spirits Museum Theatre Tours will depart by bus from the Ware-Lyndon House on Saturday, December 8 at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person for adults and $15 for children under the age of 12. Space is limited, so you are encouraged to reserve your seats early.
