sixty60th Anniversary Fun Fact
Schaumburg's tremendous growth, which had started in the 1960s, continued in the next decade. By 1970, the village's population was 18,730. That same year, Interstate 290 joined the Northwest Tollway as a major roadway serving the community and this additional link to Chicago was further enticement for developers seeking fertile business ground. Mayor Bob Atcher, pictured third from right, cuts another ribbon during this boom time.

pacePace Rerouting 602 to Serve Town Square in Schaumburg
To better serve Schaumburg residents, Pace will change a portion of the routing on Route 602 Higgins - Salem - Cedarcrest on Monday, Sept. 12. The new routing will offer weekday rush-hour connections between Town Square of Schaumburg and the Metra Milwaukee District West Line Schaumburg Station.

"Using feedback from recent surveys targeting potential riders along the current route in addition to analyzing Dial-A-Ride Transportation (DART) rider statistics, the village was able to work with Pace to develop this new route that will incorporate more densely populated areas near Town Square, while keeping ride times consistent for patrons in areas with demonstrated ridership," said Village of Schaumburg Director of Transportation Karyn Robles. Read more about the route change.

View the map of the new route. For additional information about bus routes in Schaumburg, visit Pace's website.
officersOfficers Give Presentations at Schaumburg High on Safety
Recently two Schaumburg Police Department Special Operations Division officers joined students in the classroom at Schaumburg High School to educate them about the dangers of prescription pill abuse and the link to heroin use. Officer Kalic and Officer Alvarado provided students with explanations about what these drugs are made of and the negative effects on their bodies, lives and overall wellbeing.

The officers discussed the warning signs including specific behaviors people display if they are struggling with drug addiction. The students were given multiple resources to get assistance if they know anyone needing help. The students were able to interact with the officers during the presentation and ask questions in a comfortable learning environment.

The collaborative efforts of the school district, police department, parents and students is a great example of the community coming together to educate with a common goal of keeping our students safe. Approximately 280 students were provided this educational presentation aimed to prevent drug abuse and addiction.
