Calling all Employees in Schaumburg

The Village of Schaumburg is currently conducting a research initiative to determine the public's perceptions about Schaumburg. As part of the research, the village would like to reach out to employees via an online survey to obtain feedback. As an employee working in Schaumburg, your input is important as it will help influence future investment and resources into the community. The survey takes about five minutes to complete and all responses are anonymous. The survey closes Friday, Sept. 16. Take the survey.

Be Prepared When Disaster Strikes

September is National Preparedness Month. The Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and local emergency management agencies throughout the state encourage the public to spend a few moments during the month on disaster preparedness.

The campaign's theme, 'Don't Wait. Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today', urges people to set aside time to discuss emergency plans with family members and develop a plan to stay safe when disaster strikes. The month-long preparedness drive will conclude on September 30 with 'American's PrepareAthon,' a national day of action.

IEMA offers disaster preparedness information on the Ready Illinois website, a one-stop resource for detailed information about what to do before, during and after disasters.

fact60th Anniversary Fun Fact
The intersection of Schaumburg and Roselle roads, the original crossroads of the community, served as the center of Schaumburg's commercial and social life in its earliest years. As commercial development spread to other locations throughout the village in order to serve the growing population, Schaumburg's original town center began to fade. Deciding that the town's history was deeply rooted in this area and that preservation efforts should be put in place, Schaumburg's Village Board created the Old Schaumburg Centre Historic District in 1977, with boundaries of the district extending for a quarter of a mile in each direction from the intersection. Also created during this time was the Old Schaumburg Centre Commission, whose mission was to preserve the historical nature of the district while encouraging development of the site.

Be sure to check the local weather prior to leaving home and utilize weather apps and alerts on your smartphone. Always know your location and where to seek shelter if threatened with inclement weather. Signage will be readily available at the fest and emergency shelter locations are provided on program maps to help guide participants to safe locations. Have a safe and enjoyable Septemberfest!
ncsVillage to Conduct Second Community Survey
To ensure Schaumburg continues on a path of growth and improvement, the village will seek input, opinions and feedback from its residents by conducting its second community-wide National Citizen Survey™ (NCS). Starting next week, the survey will be distributed to a random sample of 1,500 households and will ask residents to provide feedback on the quality and usefulness of village services.

The first NCS survey was conducted in 2014 and revealed that 95 percent of respondents view the village as an excellent or good place to live. In addition, the survey showed that Schaumburg offers a high quality of life, has a thriving economy and is strong in education and enrichment. Ninety-four percent of respondents recommend Schaumburg as a place to live and 95 percent of respondents feel safe in their neighborhood.

For more information on the survey and a summary of the initiatives that the village has undertaken in response to the 2014 results, visit the village's website. Questions can be directed to Clayton Black or by dialing 311 in Schaumburg.
