The survey should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete and is open to all members of the community. Take the survey.

Fire Department Uses Donated Vehicles to Practice Extrications

Last week, Schaumburg Fire Department personnel participated in vehicle extrication training. fact60th Anniversary Fun Fact
Since 2004, "Awaking Muse," has been at home on the grounds of the Atcher Municipal Center. Comprised of Indiana limestone, the 40-foot Greek goddess created by Lawler-White Sculpture Studios has a 6-foot tall head, with a knee, leg and hand poking through the earth, as if just arising from a deep sleep. campusPractice Campus Fire Safety
As college students are heading off to their dormitory or off-campus living for the upcoming school year, it is important that students remember fire safety tips they learned as a young child.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, the leading causes of campus related fires include: 1. Cooking (hot plates, microwaves, portable grills, etc.); 2. Arson; 3. Careless smoking; 4. Unattended candles; and 5. Overloaded extension cords, power strips and outlets.

The Schaumburg Fire Department reminds students to:
  • Look for fully sprinklered housing when choosing a dorm or off-campus housing.
  • Never leave cooking food unattended and do not cook when sleepy or drowsy from alcohol or medicine.
  • Make sure sleeping areas have a smoke alarm.
  • Test smoke alarms monthly!
  • Learn your building's evacuation plan and practice all drills as a true emergency. If you live off campus, have an escape plan that includes two ways out of every room.
  • Do not overload outlets or run cords under furniture or rugs.
  • Do not leave burning candles unattended. Make sure they are in sturdy holders and away from flammable objects.
