The village is encouraging the public to participate in an online survey, which is
an important component of a community research initiative being conducted for the Village of Schaumburg that will help determine community perceptions. As a member of the Schaumburg community, this is your opportunity to let your voice be heard!

The survey should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete and is open to all members of the community. Take the survey.

budgetIllinois Stop-Gap Budget Provides Temporary Relief
Illinois legislators recently approved a partial, stop-gap budget that was signed into law after going a full year without an approved state budget. Although temporary, the budget does ensure Illinois schools will open this fall, road construction projects will move forward, social service providers will receive some financial relief and state operations will continue through the end of 2016.

The budget allows the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to continue road improvements on Higgins Road and other state projects. IDOT will also continue distributing critical Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds to local governments, which is $2 million in tax revenue for Schaumburg, allowing the village to maintain roads and purchase items like road salt, asphalt mix and pavement marking. And although IDOT still owes approximately $6,000 for utility bills for two facilities in Schaumburg, the village remains hopeful the bills will be paid with the new budget agreement.

The stop-gap budget also gives the authority for funds such as MFT, Use Tax and 911 fees to be distributed to local governments that were previously withheld due to last year's budget impasse. This allows the $1.8 million Use Tax to support the village's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to pay for road reconstruction, building improvements and sidewalks/bikepaths. It also allows 911 fees to be paid directly to Northwest Central Dispatch System to support the 911 center that serves village residents.

However, while the stop-gap budget does not reduce any state-shared revenue for Schaumburg at this time, the budget is not a permanent solution nor does it mean Schaumburg won't be impacted in the future by funds that could be diverted to solve state budget issues. Village officials will continue to work with state officials to ensure the state budget crisis is not pushed onto local government, which could impact the village's revenue streams, local programs and services in the community.

To contact state officials, visit the village's website.
