Rabine Group Receives "Best and Brightest" Award

Rabine Group, a leading local and national provider of commercial paving, roofing, and snow removal, which is headquartered in Schaumburg, has been recognized as one of the 2016 "Chicago's Best and Brightest Companies to Work For" by the National Association for Business Resources.

The award program provides the business community with the opportunity to gain recognition, showcase best practices, and demonstrate why they are an ideal place for employees to work.
       
Former Longtime Library Trustee Passes Away

Former Schaumburg Township District Library Trustee Debby Miller, an active member of the community and advocate for libraries and intellectual freedom, passed away on July 23, according to Library Executive Director Stephanie Sarnoff. Miller served with distinction as a library trustee from 1971 through 2015, holding the offices of library board president, vice-president/secretary, and treasurer. REMINDER: Village's Second Cycle of Brush Collection Begins Aug. 1

The second collection cycle of the village's brush collection program will begin the week of August 1 and continue through the end of September. Please visit the website to determine your zone and schedule. Brush must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. of the Monday of your scheduled week. It may take crews up to five days to complete collection in each zone. The program is open to single family residences only. Please dial 311 in Schaumburg with any questions.
       
 
West Side Story Production Kicks Off

The timeless musical-drama West Side Story kicks off this weekend with performances held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30 at the Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Ct., Schaumburg. Tickets cost $20 ($16 for students/seniors). West Side Story is sponsored by Schaumburg Bank and Trust. Schaumburg Summer Theatre is a program of the Village of Schaumburg. Participate in the Comprehensive Plan Update Process

The village is encouraging the public to participate in the process underway to update the village's comprehensive plan. There are several ways to get involved, many of which are as easy as visiting the website to provide feedback via the online maps and surveys. Scrapbook Expo Coming August 19-20

The Scrapbook Expo show will be coming to the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel August 19-20. The event, which is open to the public, offers industry-leading consumer scrapbook shows that provide an amazing experience for the public. State Sen. Laura Murphy's District Office Available at Schaumburg Farmers Market

State Sen. Laura Murphy's District Office will be providing outreach and constituent service at the Schaumburg Farmers Market on Friday, July 29. Sen. Murphy's staff helps 28th District residents with various issues and concerns ranging from senior services, veteran concerns and healthcare needs to name a few. District Director Marty McAlpin and Administrative Assistant Andrew Gomberg from the Senator's staff will be available to answer questions and take inquiries. They will be available from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the market.

The market is open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is located in the parking lot of Trickster Art Gallery, 190 S. Roselle Road.

       
Become a "Friend of the Fest"

Residents and families (non-business) who want to support Schaumburg's Septemberfest festival held on Labor Day weekend can do so by becoming a Friend of the Fest. Three levels of sponsorship are available for a $25, $50 and $100 contribution.

Electronics giant Motorola, Inc., purchased 316 acres of farmland from John Friese in 1964 and went on to build its 674,000 square-foot world headquarters there on the property bordered by Meacham Road to the east and Algonquin Road to the north.
NNOCelebrate a Safe Community with National Night Out on August 2
The Village of Schaumburg is proud to announce its participation in the 33rd Annual National Night Out event, a night where the public is encouraged to meet some of their neighbors as well as Schaumburg's first responders and raise awareness about crime prevention and safety in the community.

This year's event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2 with Neighborhood Watch Groups, associations and interested neighborhood groups participating. Schaumburg dignitaries and police officials will be visiting various block parties.

As part of the event, participants may receive a visit from the police bike safety patrol, Police K9 unit, a Crash Dummy, McGruff or even one of the Schaumburg fire trucks. For more information, visit the website.
WileyWiley Road/Tower Road Intersection to Close for Work
Beginning Monday, Aug. 1, the intersection of Tower Road and Wiley Road, west of Meacham Road, will be closed to traffic. The intersection will be excavated and new concrete pavement will be poured. No access from Meacham Road to Tower Road or Wiley Road will be permitted.

Vehicles will have full access to Tower Road from National Parkway, and Wiley Road will have full access from Plum Grove Road. Additionally, motorists can access Meacham Road from Remington Road. The village anticipates this work will be complete in two weeks, weather permitting.
fiftiesRemembering the 1950s in Honor of the Village's 60th Anniversary
In honor of the village's 60th anniversary when it was officially incorporated on March 7, 1956, Schaumburg seniors participated in a 50s theme party at The Barn on July 27. Close to 90 seniors gathered to enjoy a lunch of cheeseburgers and root beer floats from Culver's. They listened (and danced!) to classic musical hits from the 50s and enjoyed a slide-show presentation by Schaumburg Township District Librarian and local historian Jane Rozek who shared facts and information about the community's rich history. In addition, this month's "Change" cable TV show that is currently running is on the topic of the 60th anniversary and people's memories about the beginning of Schaumburg.

Walker Bros. Original Pancake House (18 S. Roselle Rd.)

The building at 18 S. Roselle Road in Town Square will soon be the home of Walker Bros. Original Pancake House. Walker Bros. is a breakfast & lunch restaurant, which is most famous for its apple pancakes, thickly sliced bacon and freshly squeezed orange juice. The restaurant has been approved for 153 customer seats as well as an additional 32 in a season outdoor seating area. Walker Bros. purchased the property at 18 S. Roselle in July 2015, which was previously occupied by Applebee's before it closed in 2013. The Schaumburg location will be Walker Bros.' seventh in the Chicago suburbs and is anticipated to be open for business in September.
nutcrackerNutcracker Auditions in August
The Schaumburg Dance Ensemble is announcing auditions for its 2016 production of The Nutcracker. The 2016 run will include 12 performances featuring more than 100 dancers. Child and adult roles are available. Auditions and performances will be held at the Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg.

Audition dates include:

ConstructionConstruction Updates
Meacham Road and American Lane Pedestrian Enhancements
Work to install the decorative pedestrian enhancements is scheduled to begin the week of August 1. The work will be completed during the nighttime hours of 9 p.m. through 6 a.m., weather permitting. Should the weather delay the placement of the enhancements, these activities will take place the following day. No work will be performed on Saturday or Sunday. The project is anticipated to be complete by August 26. For additional information, please contact the village at (847) 923-6681.

Schaumburg Court Improvements
Paving and roadway improvements were completed on Schaumburg Court, and the road was reopened to traffic this  past week. Although no other road closures will be necessary, some minor work will continue in the coming weeks so please use caution and remain alert for workers in the area.  

Wiley Road Improvements
Curb and gutter repairs and replacements are complete on Wiley Road between Plum Grove Road and Tower Road. Concrete driveways are being replaced and pavement milling is expected to take place next week, weather permitting. The project is anticipated to be complete by October. I-90 Tollway Updates
The Roselle Road contractor has shifted southbound traffic to the new bridge this past week so remain alert for changing traffic patterns on both Roselle Road and Central Road. Please use extra caution over the next few days as commuters get used to the new lanes and new traffic signal locations. Aug 4-7: Stitches Midwest
Stitches Midwest will be coming to the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel August 4-7. The event, which is the ultimate experience for knitters and crocheters, includes classes, shopping, market sessions and more. This two-day event is open to the public. Aug 6: Star-Gazing Party
Enjoy star gazing at the Star-Gazing Party offered from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 at Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road. Aug 11: Social Security

Aug 19: Clint Black
Tickets are available for country singer Clint Black who will be performing at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19 at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium, 1999 S. Springinsguth Road. Reserved seats, outfield general admission and lawn seats are all available for $32.50. Tickets for children 12 & under are $10.
